No he wouldn't. Maybe not a KO, but a stoppage or towel thrown in. It would be an easy fight for Pavlik.
You all have valid points but I wouldnt be surprised if Sturm could last the 12 rounds and squeak out a decision. But if Pavlik does land heavy shots early Sturm wont last.
He won with Sylvester who is not as physically imposing as Pavlik and more importantly went into a chess match with Sturm where Felix is in his groove. Gevor beat Sturm on the inside all night. But I agree it's close and I would like to see it.
You are not seriously implying that Pavlik is better than Gevor on inside? Gevor has only one gameplay, and that is inside. I didn't see him that much better on the inside than Sturm, otherwise it would be Sturm holding on for dear life in the championship rounds. Sturm fought inside instead of choosing to use his feet...and he held more or less his won against a guy who is an inside fighter. A few fights before, he would be badly trashed (see Castiejo I).
Sturm never fought against approved fighters such as Pavlik which are able to put somebody down before time... He was kept safe by his Promoters, through his whole career after the DLH-Fight, such as Brähmer was yesterday -until Sept. this year Sturm was signed to the same Promotion -, and Sturm, for sure got the worse opponents than Brähmer yesterday, defending his "World Title". Because of that I don't think that S. would survive more than 4 Rd's against Pavlik...
Pavlik may not be better on the inside than Gevor but he'd still beat Gevor. But I'm saying Pavlik is better than Sturm at the type of fight Sturm fought with Sylvester.I don't trust Sturm on the inside that much either. Gevor was beating Sturm on the inside.Onlt time when Sturm was winning was when the bias ref was braking them up so that Gevor can't work and put him at the end of Sturm's jab. Even so Sturm needed hometown judges to win.
for the life of me i dont understand why pavlik doesnt call out sturm, wouldnt that make a huge statement by saying he's goin to germany to take that belt!.
Pavlik and Sturm tried to make a fight earlier this year. HBO offered a total purse of $2 million, and that is an insult to both fighters. Now that Sturm has made some kind of deal with Freddie Roach maybe that relationship will inspire HBO to up the ante.
I see why people would pick Pavlik, I am not even sure about Sturm defeating him, I think it would be closely contested unlike some of you. Sturm has his off-nights, but he looks good every now and then. I would love this fight.
ahaha what a joke of a purse offer by hbo. hopefully freddie roach thing will make HBO wake up and put down a real purse for these 2.
I saw lot of punches blocked by Sturm and all the heavy hitting in close quarters was done by him as well (hooks to the body could be even heard on TV). As for breaking up, I didn't see it that way... Sturm was going nowhere, he was at the ropes, and there is not much point of pushing him with a forehead as Gevor did. Just lock the heads and beat each other, there was no reason for pushing - Gevor couldn't help himself. Anyway, my point is that Sturm is by far more versatile fighter than Pavlik. He can choose to fight him inside trying to back him up, mid-range or outside running a lot. I'm not saying he's beating him with any of the tactics, but Sturm has a lot of options and back-up plans - Pavlik doesn't.
No **** it was a joke. A 3 time middleweight world titlist verses the linear middlweight champ, and HBO offered a pittance. I've wanted to see this fight for a long time, and I hope it gets done.
Well, Roach is pretty good at picking his match ups, so we will have to see if he is willing to let Sturm fight Pavlik. :think
i don't think so. in sturm's last fight against gevor, all gevor did was making it a phone booth type of fight and sturm had no idea what to do. on the outside pavlik would jab him to death. i know sturm carries that high guard, but it's not terribly difficult to get past it.
