I think that Sturms reluctance about fighting Golovkin doesn't separate him much from any other current middleweight and that the WBA should have forced him to fight Golovkin a year ago or two. Sturm obviously doesn't deserve to have a belt because hes just a gatekeeper so someone like Golovkin will have to beat him up sooner or later but at least hes regularly fighting other gatekeepers in good competitive bouts. he wins some, loses some. He always comes in great shape, took a lot punishment in his recent fights etc. hes not picking bums but hes fighting guys who are on the same level and gives his all to beat them. I thinks thats what we can ask those paper champs to do and thats what makes him a respectable fighter in my book. and as far as his market in Germany in concerned Zbik is probably the one who draws the bigger crowd, the better tv ratings and who his fans want to see him fighting rather than Golovkin. so I just have a hard time blaming Sturm for not actively seeking a fight he has zero chance of surviving let alone winning and all that for shorter money on top

Zbik put on a good showing vs Chavez Jr

he is a fast fighter who throws a lot and moves a lot maybe he can out box Sturm

it doesnt seperate him from any other middleweights except that he has been doing it for 7 or 8 years...
Zbik will be an entertaining fight, but im sure everyone would agree there are 6-8 more qualified guys that would be accepted as opponents

    Sturm is a *****

WBA needs to force him to fight Golovkin or strip him now

Both Golovkin and Andy Lee are looking for an opponent. Lee should try and avenge his amateur loss to Gennady.

The fight could easily be made. Andy is a friend of Wladimir Klitschko and Gennady is promoted by K-2.

Sturm has many wins over decent MW opponents. Golovkin hasnt realy beaten anyone yet. I would say though that Sturm has been very difficult to match of late and from what I understand this is down to Sturm who isnt looking as good as he used to lately.
Sturm possibly is avoiding Golovkin but at least he can say Golovkin hasnt done anything of real note. Just look at how Ward is avoiding Bute and how Bradley didnt seem keen to face Khan, that looked far worse

    Gennady would flatten Sturm.

Sturm is finished at top level, he's just gasping his last breaths on top level (trying to hold on to his belt for dear life).

:think close fight with old Castillejo, Murray and a clear win vs Sylvester that's all

Golovkin has done more than Koji Sato, Jamie Pittman, Giovanni Lorenzo, Ronald Hearns and Martin Murray. He has done more than Sebastian Zbik too

I understand what you're saying, but I can't condone justifying paper champions fighting hand-picked opponents for years. You call Sturm a gatekeeper but he hasn't lost a fight for 6 years and has been a "World Champion" and top ranked middleweight for almost the same amount of time.

You're forgetting Lou Dibella in that equation. That ***** won't put his guys in with Pirog or Golovkin no matter what.

It'll be interesting to see if Sturm goes to the same shameful lengths that N'Kijam has to avoid Golovkin. There's a lot of talent at 160 that really should be fighting each other - in particular, Pirog and Golovkin need to get a title shot. I actually think those two facing each other would be the best fight but that'll probably have to wait a year or two.

Zbik is far from the worst opponent for Sturm in the grand sheme of things I suppose. I think he'll give a good account of himself before dropping a close decision. If he can out-jab Sturm though (not an easy task), he'll win.

I've liked the look of Proska so far - has anyone in Poland or Germany heard about him being in the mix?
