Haven't seen much of either guy, who wins this and WHY? (Seriously, don't do what everyone usually does on ESB and say Sturm KTFO Gevor ! Be analytical; explain!!!!)
THIS is going to be a battle! Gevor is a very good boxer, very good skills, active, never gives up and he's tough as hell. Abraham was able to KTFO him, but Sturm won't have the tools to do this to him. Sturm has improved recently, is also very good in the technical department, has the best jab of all middleweight fighters. This one is tough to predict. I'm leaning towards Sturm, but only slightly. SD in favor of Sturm, that's my prediction.
Sturm vs Gevor - who cares and why? WHY???? Felix Sturm has made a career out of fighting nobodies, old shot greats (Castillejo) and blown-uop welterweights (De La Hoya). I propose that we all ignore this bum until he decides to fight a live opponent like Abraham, Taylor or Pavlik.
I'm gonna go with my nutsack and say Gevor stops him late. I was highly impressed on how Gevor managed to stop Asikainen last time out making the bigger taller man uncomfortable and making him miss.Asikainen didn't use the jab at all, most likely couldn't and got caught into a firefight where the busy, strong and tough armenian could have not be denied that night. Sturm had a sparring match last time out with Sato but he looked very impressive and his jab will be a key probably. He does a very good impersonation of Winky Wright. BUT if Gevor is as motivated and tough as with Asikainen I can't see him lose and I question Sturm's toughness. EDIT:The odds on this are crazy.
Gevor's looked real good lately and I think he's pretty underrated. He and Sturm are basically on the same level, but I like Gevor to edge it out. Going with the upset in this one.
I am rooting for Gevor, but I doubt it. Sturm blatantly ducked AA and I really would like to see him beaten. Gevor is good, but if Sturm brings hi A - game, he is very hard to hit.
Sturm wins impressively. And it will make him look better than AA, which he isn't, but styles make fights...
I'm curious about how you guys think a Gevor win would effect the division. HBO low balled a potential Pavlik/Sturm fight, but that is by no means the end of the story. If Sturm beats Gevor in convincing fashion, they might be willing to increase their offer. If Gevor wins, I doubt if he would jump straight into a Pavlik fight, and the networks would not buy it anyway. With Abraham gone, and a brand new WBA titlist, 160 would be dead as a freaking door nail.
If Gevor wins, Gevor-Sturm II would be next. If Gevor wins again, Gevor-Sturm III would be next. If Gevor wins again, Gevor-Sturm IV would be next. If ...
Pavlik will have to fight the winner of Zbik and Spada anyway. That's if he keeps the belt which doesn't mean much cuz he's the champ either way.
That's the problem. Universum wants to get rid of Gevor. That's why the fight takes place. Dimitrenko and Chagaev lost their last fights, Krasniqi is shot. Sturm is the only remaining cash-cow whereas Gevor is a nobody who's completely unknown.
I am going with Gevor SD. He gave Arthur his toughest fight, he is a very busy fighter that is in your face pretty much the whole fight. Sturm has a laser like jab, but I have a feeling Gevor figures him out, starts avoiding the jab, fighitning smart and outpoints him. GEVOR SPLIT DECISION WIN!
