You're probably right on the "finally" quote . . . he did fight Sylvester . . . what actually registered in my head was him fighting Sato who has only 14 fights . . . and Abraham agreeing to fight him in Germany which he refused. I'm not sure though if he also refused an official offer from team Pavlik already.
Sylvester was a mandatory. Gevor is a stablemate. It's tough to give his promoters credit for dangerous matchmaking when the only dangerous fights are forced on them or are no-lose situations for the promoter. Universum almost never lets their fighters risk losing the belt unless it's a mandatory or someone else with Universum. I'm glad they're making an exception with Kotelnik at least.
I don't know if it ever got past feeling out with them. I mean, look at the money he turned down to fight AA. Not that kind of money here in the states to pay him what he wants. Seems opponents seriously underestimate Pavlik's drawing power in terms of money. Well, I guess they want paid well for the beating too. :yep
Gevor promoted to mandatory challenger, Mundine/Geale out of WBA title race? http://wbanews.com/artman/uploads/1/WBA__official_rattings_as_of_april_2009.pdf
His own stable will do everything they can do to demotivate Gevor and throw bricks at him in camp to make it easier for Sturm, just capitalizing on his name and ranking. However, he still is a live underdog, who can KO Sturm at any point in the fight. Chances are however that if he doesn't, he will get outjabbed for the whole fight to drop a clear decision. Unless he catches Sturm a couple of times to send him down, he cannot win on points. But Sturm is notorious for losing his temper trying to trade, eating a big punch getting rattled.
Can we stop talking about Felix Sturm please? He is a good fighter who is afraid to fight real middleweight competition. When he decides to fight Pavlik or Abraham, let me know.
Mundine and Geale must not have many fans on ESB based on the lack of protest against Gevor's recent upgrade to mandatory status? :? Maybe it is a good decision after all? :think
Yeah right . . . . in Germany. Sturm's 30 fights are all in Germany, only the DLH fight in Nevada and Sendra in Croatia are the exemptions to complete his 32 fight record. . . . so what's the big deal.
It may be a win-win or a not-lose situation for the promoter, but Sturm will certainly have to lose something in his this upcomming fight. Gevor, the merciless Armenian warrior, will give him hell. A victory for Sturm is no sure bet at all.
Who wants to watch him fight outside Germany and some smaller european countries anyway? Sturm earns big bucks by fighting weak and soft opposition. At long last he faces a foe worthy of his steel.Gevor is a very dangerous challenger who has the determination and power to dethrone Sturm.
