Hey all I’m currently a 21 year old Orthodox Super Welterweight boxer who stands at 6’3 with a 77 inch (1955.8 millimetres) reach. I’m currently trying to develop my style of boxing which sometimes clashes with the opinions of other boxers I train with and on occasion my trainer. My problem is that when it comes to defence, I prefer to keep up on the balls of my feet constantly moving and only standing still to throw shots, moving my head as well as parrying shots away keeping out of range of who I’m boxing and using my jab to keep them back, throwing a right hand on occasion and with more force if they decide to keep pushing to deter them or catch them off guard. The issue comes with people telling me to stand my ground against people who are most of the time around two or three weight divisions above me which allows them to close the distance and throw powerful shots that my defences struggle to cope with, as since I like to use movement my left hand does tend to drop slightly below my chin. Although I prioritise counter punching over offence, when on the attack I throw frequent jabs, doubling them up and adding a right hand if I find an opening or to help make one, throwing out 3-4 shots per combination. I also incorporate feints and use footwork and my reach to cut off angles and keep them to one part of the ring. My knockout power has been said to be dangerously high for someone of my weight, especially with my left hook though I think it comes from me being tall and lanky in build. Multiple boxers and trainers have commented on it including one of Chris Eubank Jr’s trainers. So essentially I’m looking for any tips to help improve my defence or other ways to use my offence, or anything that can help me make use of my height and reach
Please post a video of one of your fights right here on this thread; I would really like to see it!!!
