Pick a boxer you regard highly and a not so great opponent whom you think will be more than a handful.
I think Tex Cobb would have given Foreman problems, if Cobb could take the shots he took from Shavers, then surely he could take Foreman's best. I don't see anyway he actually wins, but i think he survives all 12 even with a prime George Foreman
I've often expressed that a peak Qawi, even at LHW, would have given major stylistic headaches to any version of Ali. Dwight had the great counter jab, knack for keeping his lead foot between his opponent's feet, and the strength, stamina, defensive skills and durability to successfully withstand whatever Ali dished out. Michael Spinks had to produce an outstanding performance to outbox him in their unification at 175, and it was fortunate for Mike that he had Eddie Futch in his corner for that one, a strategist who understood counter jabbing as well as any trainer ever has. Ali should win clearly with his speed and physical advantages, but I don't see any version of him dropping or taking this particular LHW out. Ike would be a miserable stylistic experience for him to deal with. Curly specified "a not so great opponent," and I don't think Qawi would be considered as one against a prime GOAT.
Very interesting post Duo :good I think it's a well-constructed and totally fair hypothesis. I think Joan Guzman (no one in the grand scheme of things and someone I don't really rate at all) would give Arguello serious hassle with his movement.
Peak Byrd would probably give Non-Peak Liston a frustrating nightmare. His Houdini-Headmovement was incredible, as was his handspeed.
Ali= A quick handed combination punching left hooker... Louis = a pressure fighter with stamina and a good right hand and a quick footed boxer Marciano- A good boxer puncher with an iron chin and great stamina Holmes= a good right hand puncher with follow-up ability Dempsey=a good mover with some POP Foreman= A good inside fighter with stamina or a good mover with stamina Lennox Lewis= a good puncher with stamina and a solid chin and heart Frazier= A hard puncher who could find his range before Frazier did Tyson= a Fighter who showed him no fear with heart and stamina and a great chin or defense Holyfield= a good body puncher that put pressure on him with great stamina and good power
Interesting one, cant imagine Cobb taking Foreman onslaught though. Shavers tended to load up that right, whereas Foreman was far more carefree, I think once George sussed out Cobb wasnt throwing back, we would see Big George foreman corner cobb and batter him on the ropes...much like foreman-chuvalo. C. Byrd i could see outpointing Foreman. George didnt do to well against guys that he thought coudlnt hurt him or he took lightly, that negative, off the back foot boxing caused him problems. K.Norton-Holyfield at there best would have been incredible...good fighter against a great...but Kenny could nick a points win.
Really? I thought Louis was very effective in the inside and Qawi would have no chance of boxing him.
I could see Shavers knocking out Lennox...with Lewis outboxing him round after round then bang. Mayorga-Monzon---carlos was a great judge of distance, and real text book...how would he do against wild swinging iron chinned Mayorga.
