Wearing a sauna suit while training will be detrimental to your training.

They help to lose weight, water weight, which is put back on after you have a few drinks...

Could you give any good scientific reasoning as to why this has any benefits whatsoever?

RDJ i know you like to think your a bit of a know it all, but you are wrong this time.

Sweat does contain toxins, when you sweat you expel toxins and even virus' to a certain extent from your system. One of the biggest advantages of sweating is to remove bodily toxins. By wearing a sauna suit, it makes you sweat more which makes the heart work harder which will speed up your metabolism. At the time you are only losing water weight but in the long run if you exercise regulary and wear a sauna suit regulary it will speed up your metabolism on top of what a healthy diet will do.

I have seen a gym mate lose 20kg wearing a sauna suit in training. He came back from a break over weight and lost 20kg real fast using a sauna suit.

    ------------

scientific reason is it speeds up your metabolic rate, makes your heart work harder because of the extra heat, which makes you pump more blood around your body, which stimulates peripheral vessels which helps releive sparins, strains or injuries. Whilst all this is happening the body requires more energy which requires more calories.

Everything I've read about it suggests otherwise, could you provide me with a source?

At the same performance level, the heart would have to pump harder that is true because of the thicker blood. But what I read so far suggests performance drops instead.

On the toxins topic I found nothing but sources saying it's a myth, except from a few tree hugging sites.

Mate anywhere you read will tell you when you sweat you expel bodily toxins, its not a myth its a true fact. The kidneys, liver and sweat glands are the main sources for cleansing.

As for you suggesting performance drops when wearing a sauna suit, it takes time to adjust, it would be equivelant to training in thailand or philipines with all the humidity and heat or training at a higher altitude. It will take time to adjust to conditions but once your body can handle the heat or altitude you will benefit in normal conditions.

I wear a sauna suit atleast couple times a week when i do roadwork and still run the same times as when i dont wear a sauna suit.

I think the sauna suit is a good test of mental strength if you can push through once the heat sets in. I always rehydrate after wearing a sauna suit, but im not looking for a quick fix in weight loss there is long term benefits as stated above.

My sorce is actually training and experience, instead of reading up and thinking im an expert. But read anywhere the process your body undertakes when you sweat. Anything that forces your body to work harder requires more calories. Pretty simple really.

Why do you think elite boxers like cotto wear sauna suits when training for a fight. And other boxers go to thailand and philipines for camp before a fight. And go to high altitude camps. Forces the body the adapt to tougher conditions.

There is more benefits to a sauna suit then cutting 4lbs before a weigh in. You just need to know how to use a sauna suit properly. There a great training tool and trial and error is the only way you will know for yourself.

The toughening up effect is all fine and up to you really, but for the rest I need to see sources.

It's commonly used for losing water weight

That in itself is true but all the things I actually did read point in the other direction.

Not really. Like some of the people on this thread, a boxer sees a pro boxer wearing a sauna suit and thinks it must have some benefit so they do it themselves not actually knowing why they are wearing it.

Nobody said that. I'm fairly sure RDJ has learned the same way as me - reading and practicing what I've learned. Everything I've read and been taught has said that sweating more will degrade performance, hence the reason boxers just wear shorts when boxing. I can see what you mean about pushing the body harder, but I can't see how dehydrating yourself will help improve your boxing when you can barely stand to actually box or do any other type of training. Maybe you should starve yourself for a few days before training as well, it'll have pretty much the same effect.

Again, post some sources. I won't have a problem admitting I'm wrong if you can prove what your saying.

and who says you cant keep hydrating whilst you train with a sauna suit, i never said you had to dehydrate yourself. Keep hydrating and benefit from the heat. Like i said, you have know how to use a sauna suit properly.

    what a stupid debate.

of course sauna suits help you lose weight. Water weight via dehydration. working while dehydrated to any degree kills performance, thats why fighters always rehydrate before a fight and when they train.

Other than that sauna suits are an arcaic and ignorant training technique. You want your body as hydrated as it can be so you can push yourself as hard as you can and actually get benifit cause your muscles are hydrated.

they were banned from public schools because during a hard routine with one there is a decent chance you will DIE. it wont be a slow lead-poisoning like death lol, you'll just drop dead in the middle of your workout.

    what are you guys jockeys?

toughens someone up? give me a break. toughen up using a benificial training method, not a detrimental one. Go an extra round in sparring, yell with each punch, face your fears of fighting a better opponent, work hard every day.

other than that you might as well drive nails through your feet to 'toughen up' its going to have a similar effect.

Even if sweat did cleanse toxins you sweat more by intaking water and working hard over time because YOUR BODY THEN HAS WATER TO MAKE SWEAT. either way the water dehydration is so detrimental it makes any minute benifit gained from that myth coumpletely compromised.

sounds like a 1960's has-been wrestling coach. "RUN HARDER *****!! YOU DON NEED NO WATER". dont train stupid train smart.

    sry fer the rant
