Just caught the main event. Its absolutely a lock for 10 best fights of the year, if not even top 5.

In the opening rounds I thought that Smith´s inexperience was showing and he was clinching and wrestling too much. But in the 4th round it looked like Matias was actually showing fatigue. And when the 5th round started you could clearly see Matias being dead tired, it was all over his face. All of the wrestling actually tired him out, and to Smiths credit he also landed some wicked body shots throughout the rounds.

Of course the commentators were absolute morons, one of them saying something like: "Matias does not look tired at all." Why does DAZN employ only ******s?

Anyways, great fight, quick stoppage, but I think Matias was done for. He was tired, got knocked down, and his punches lacked the snap they had in the previous rounds.

Lot of people complaining about the commentary saying it was the most biased or some of the most biased they've ever heard. To be honest, I was so absorbed in the fight and given it didn't start till like 4am I had the volume a bit too low to be able to hear it properly whilst so absorbed in the fight

Same. I only got annoyed in the 5th round, cant really recall anything else besides that. Any bias they had was tuned out by the in ring action, and It was nothing like a PBC card.

From the outset I thought Smith was fighting the wrong fight, that he would not be able to sustain that pace let alone against someone like Matias, and that it was plain to see he was struggling with the pace judging from his body language so I can understand it from that perspective. However, he was consistently landing with big shots and was digging deep and fighting his ass off, and was clearly winning the fight so if they had Matias winning or weren't acknowledging Smith's work as much as they should of that would be egregious

Pure nonsense. It's funny how it's always the most pretentious users with the worst takes. You said you've been around boxing your whole life, but come out with drivel like this. Dalton wasn't in full control, I thought you could score that 3-1 Dalton in competitive rounds or 2-2. He was starting to feel the pace, but credit to him he didn't wilt and kept cracking Matias with hard shots.

Always knew Smith would win this
I've said he'd be a world champion ever since he was fighting in Eddie Hearns garden

Been saying for years Wardley was the divisions dark horse: he has decent boxing skills matched with a rare scrappers instinct to just go to war when he gets hit or buzzed, he just throws caution to the wind in a manner very much like Nigel Benn and I love it! He'll definitly unravel at some point but, so what!
Im here to be entertained and he delivers in spades!

Wasn’t high on Smith but after watching that he’s really impressed me, he showed he can be a dynamic fighter, with a lot of heart who can walk through the fire. I’ve always thou

All i'll say is this, anyone denying Smith's performance in ANY way needs to give their head a wobble! He went to the drug cheats back yard, with the deck stacked against him and ripped the belt from Matias' hands in devastating fashion! Those 2 right hands before the finishing punch were right on the point of the chin, the last punch was just the coup de gras!

Wow! Just caught up with this and what a round 5. I thought the count seemed a bit fast to me, but hard to criticize the ref when Matias had rubber-legs.

Credit to Smith whilst i though he could maybe do something similar to Paro and get a decision, I did NOT see him beating Matias ay his own game.

It's a punishing gameplan to always walk through fire and Matrias punhc resistance was always likely to hit a ceiling at some point

Sam Noakes moseys on over to the US in late November to fight Mason in his backyard and it's a FOTY contender

Just six or so weeks later Dalton Smith moseys on over there to fight Matias on his home soil and it's another FOTY contender

You think that's just a coincidence? You're out of your goddamn mind if so. That's British beef on full display again

We also had among many others

    Smith vs Buatsi
    Benn vs CEJ I
    Fabio vs J-Park
    Fabio vs Huni
    Walker vs McCormack
    Ball vs Goodman
    Rafferty vs Chamberlain
    Williamson vs Dickenson
    Williamson vs Simpson
    Fawaz vs Bostan II

British beef. Fiercest warriors in the world :deal:

Matias turns 34 in March. The whole macho style only works for young fighters. Once you get into your mid 30s your gas tank and chin begins to diminish. The older you get the more you have to rely on your technique and strategy. And Matias just isnt that kind of guy.

British boxing hasn't been great lately but Smith has restored my faith a little.. that was a brilliant fight & performance & a well deserved world title win. He's got a new fan in me. Best fight I've seen since Smith Buatsi..

Smith was brilliant. Went to Matias’s back yard, didn’t box cute but instead beat him at his own game, stopped him in 5.

I had the more proven fighter in Matias winning, but full credit to Dalton - he looked brilliant and has proved to be a good fighter now.

Guessing we’ll see Dalton V Hitchins now. If winner of Teo/Shakur fights Haney?
