Matias fights nothing like Prograis, in fact you couldn't be more off about a fighter, I'm speaking as someone who has followed Haney, Matias, Lopez before they went pro. Prograis isn't a volume puncher like Matias and that's a fact. Matias throws 88-100 punches a round. He doesn't try to KO opponents right away. He peppers his shots in compact short shots, landing at 39% accuracy. Prograis has a very low workrate. Prograis also has no jab and there isn't a fight where he shown a jab. The iab is Matias most used punch and it sets up his pressure. Matias has a very good jab for his style because it has unconventional timing and it's deceptively strong. It's land like a cross without Matias loading up. Matias has hurt his last 5 opponents with the jab so you can't even downplay it. It works for Matias. Prograis also doesn't cut off the ring. At all. Matias best attribute along with his stamina is cutting off the ring. You can say Matias has flat feet, but flat feet doesnt mean slow feet. Matias has endlessly wheels to cutting off angles and making the ring smaller. He's very methodical to his ring generalship. This comparison is 100% off and I think you're putting too much stock into Devin Haney vs Prograis, where Prograis already been dropped at his hometown by Zorilla who isn't a top 50 LW, Haney has 0 TKOs since 2019 and he couldn't finish a 35 year old short Prograis who ducked Matias for 5 years. Haney is a good fighter, but I think Matias has the styles advantage here. A pressure fighter is usually a problem for a pure boxer.

The hate for Haney on here is out of hand. He’s a very good young boxer who is making some big fights. I felt Loma was unlucky not to get the nod in their fight but it was still close. The Loma fanboy brigade needs to move on.

 

I think Matias does beat the crap out of Haney but I think he only has a two-year window to do it in, including this year. He's an older fighter and he may start slowing down/having trouble making the weight, and then Haney will be able to dance circles around him.
