can you name some other successful ambidexetrous boxers???? obviously marvin hagler comes to mind and in today's current boxing landscape nonito donaire.....
definitely ambidextrous bro....in almost of all of his major fights he often switched from orthodox to lefty constantly.......:bbb
So you mean switch-hitters? Tim Witherspoon & Prince Nas, Toney often changed stance on the inside. Tyson Fury too :yep
Having the ability to fight Southpaw and Orthodox does not make someone ambidextrous; that is a fallacy.
Almost EVERY orthodox fighter can switch and have little problems witht he footwork, the jab and the defense....although the circling away from the R hand has caused many to get KTFO. However, for an ortho fighter to switch, he's still gotta utilize that L hand, and if he aint throwing it straight and hard, he's wasting his time. Andre Dirrel is a perfect example. An ambidextrous fighter can sign his name with either hand. Throw a baseball effectively with either hand, a football, or kicker a ball with either. He can accurately shoot a firearm with either, and beat off with either. I know......cuz Im one of em....well, used to be anyways.
Mike Tyson, of course. He was a lefty but Cus made him train & fight righty. He took to it easily, so technically he was ambidexterous.- That's why he had so much power in both hands. Same I think, for Henry Cooper & Joe Frazier, but I'm not sure.
I doubt there have been too many truly ambidextrous boxers. As stated above many can switch for a portion of a round or a few rounds. But usually it is more for shock value than preference. Even Hagler wasn't really equally talented either way around.
Kelly Pavlik. Max Kellerman said he watched Kelly write his name perfectly with both hands. I'm also pretty sure Mikkel Kessler is ambidextrous. But oh wait...I guess the TS could be referring to fighters with the ability to fight in both stances. If that's the case, then Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell are the first to come to mind. Cotto used to do this often, and still occasionally throws a combo out of the southpaw stance.
I used to be ablt to write my name well with both hands because I broke my right thumb badly at one stage and had no choice. I can't box effectively from a southpaw stance though.
