If I'm not mistaken, the regular champ becomes the mandatory defense for the super champ, and the super champ has 18 months from the time that happens to make the defense. I imagine if Povetkin would decline again (which I wouldn't be able to help but  at), he'd get stripped and the next top guys in the WBA's rankings would fight it out to determine who the mandatory is, and the 18 month clock would likely start over.

If I'm wrong on this, feel free to correct me. I've already put more into learning that WBA bull**** than I'd ever planned to.

Haye waited and waited, but he at least went off and grabbed a belt. He got something that the Klitschko's wanted, and that helped him earn the extra bucks, among other things.

Povetkin just ducked and went off and fought bums and hasn't even looked impressive against them. That doesn't build interest for him at all. It's not even a close comparison!

And to answer your question, yes Atlas is an idiot. All Atlas has done is criticize the Klitschko's and spout off about how easy they are to beat, he gets his hands on a gold medalist top contender who was on the doorstep to fighting Wlad....took him and brought his career to a grinding halt, then regressed him back to amateur level, throwing in an illegal sparring session/fight here and there and pissing away Povetkin's prime years. Of course if Pov ever faces Wlad and gets beaten brutally, Atlas will place all the blame on Sasha and insist the Klitschko's still aren't that good. :patsch

Agree. Atlas ****ed him, and whole management team. Getting him that fight must have cost promoter a small fortune, Atlas turned around and made them al look bad. ON other hand they should have known better.

Atlas said once "Guy has security issues, lacks confidence , may not be ready, needs a lot of work," and other such stuff. Not about Povetkin, this is what he said when he got Michael Moorer almost 20 years ago  He said same of Briggs when he dropped him, and of Lalonde. Now Povetkin. I think it is obvious Teddy is one with no scruples. He is more worried about looking bad than anything else.

Don't forget the work he did with another guy, Mike Grant. Not an over achiever in the bunch, is there. Just under achievers and it is not a coincidence.

The gap in talent between a corner with Atlas w/ Povetkin against Steward and Wlad is about as wide as things can get in the sport.

I suspect he now realises Wlad isn't going away, and he can't wait for him to lose at the expense of his own prime. Sitting back and letting Haye have a shot at Wlad wasn't a terrible move because if it had worked out (i.e Haye winning) Povetkin would be in a far better position.

Or maybe he read one of my posts clearly stating that all roads lead to Wladimir Klitschko, and he realised there is no escaping his date with destiny!

Maybe the goal is to win the 'regular' WBA belt first, then to milk it a little bit, and then be able to demand a bigger share of the revenue when he does actually fight Wlad.

I believe Sasha Povetkin may have seen something like I saw and have realized before. Wladimir Klitschko needs to do two things to dictate his own terms in a boxing match: keep a comfortable distance to score with jabs and control his opponents movements and restart his approach by stepping away and reapproaching or out of the clinch situation - he has no inside game. Povetkin may have discovered that his punching combination approach and his inside fighting would be highly regarded by the judges... Of course, he needs to get inside and that means rediscovering his boxing stance after the Chambers IBF tourney fight.

This is what I expect... Using the ridiculous WBA to get a "world title" and then fighting Wlad after a while and making a shitload of $$$.

Wouldn't be surprised if he suddenly starts talking serious crap after (if) he takes that WBA strap.

If he seriously wanted to fight Wlad, why would he fight for the WBA regular title? Because it's not like the WBA actually would want Povetkin if he won that match to unify the regular title with the "super" title.

    This. :good

Povetkin was at his peak in '07 against Byrd & '08 against Chambers, & he knows the longer he waits, the more he'll slip.

How so? It's not the same as a unification. Wlad is the real WBA champ. Povetkin even with the regular WBA belt would be named Wlad's WBA mandatory. He can milk his "title" all he wants, he wouldn't make more than the mandatory purse split 75/25. It's really not different that a regular mando....just that Povetkin wears a paper strap.

The WBA Super titlist and WBA regular titlist don't need to fight. The WBA super titlist doesn't have mandatories either, I hate the idea of a super and regular champion but the only benefit of a super champion is that he doesn't have an extra mandatory.
