Its the fight that never was.

Gorseinon Grave Digger - turned Pro Boxer - Colin Jones worked his way up to Mandotory position for the WBC World Welterweight title.

Lenoard - rather than face Jones - decided to retire with a eye injury.

Jones was denied the chance to fight one of the all time greats. :-(

What happens if Lenoard had taken the fight ?

Jones was in his prime then - by his own admission - he was a on the downward slide when he fought Curry in 1985.

In 1983 - he still had his hair cut short - and was still young - about 23 years old and hungry for the World title - and still had not yet been beaten properly in the ring - (lost one by disqualification when he hit the bloke when he was already on the floor).

I realise - most would probaly say - Lenoard would win.

But how would the fight go ?

    How would Jones fare ?

    What would happen ?

Leonard was slated to fight Roger Stafford when he got injured, not Jones.

See Leonard vs. Dave Boy Green and Bruce Finch.

Greens team knew he was outmatched when they took the fight but figured it would be a nice payday and that Green wouldn't get hurt because Leonard couldn't punch!!

Jones would last a bit longer than Green but not fare any better. Leonard turns his face to mush in about six rounds, then take him out.

green was certainly on the downside of his career for the leonard fight and as you say greens team did think leonard was a non-puncher but leonards team also thought that green would be a nice fight for leonard to look like a star in his home defence of the tittle ,at least one of the teams got it right

It was because of that very reason, I was certain Hagler would hammer SRL.
