What does each fighter do better than the other? and how does it play out.

I have Leonard with the better footwork, jab, power. Floyd better defence, reflexes, boxing brain (Leonard is a genius too).

I see Leonard pressuring Floyd hard and forcing stoppage late (15 rounds) after a difficult first 6.

I pretty much agree with your assessment.

Leonard had better combos, possibly better speed. Floyd all else.

Floyd is a better defensive fighter. Ray was a LOT better offensively.

The only thing Leonard has over Mayweather is size since he's naturally 3 weight classes heavier. Leonard started his career at 147 wheres Floyd started at 130

And with size comes power, which is the main thing he has over Floyd which is why PBF would lose to SRL fairly convincingly had they ever fought.

I can see it going either way. Mayweather's ring IQ and defensive genius could allow him to win a close decision.

A Floyd loss is certainly very possible. I could see SRL losing very convincingly to Roy Jones if they ever fought.

I agree. There's a saying in boxing that a great bigger guy will usually beat a great smaller guy and all these three fighters l'd classify as great.

Well unless being a defensive genius somehow translates into offensive l really don't see it happening at all and l've watched a lot of their fights. I think bluebirds assessment is pretty bang on.

At 147, I don't give Mayweather much of chance. I mean can you see the Floyd from when he fought Judah, Baldomir, Oscar and Hatton beating a prime 147 Leonard? Ray would be the bigger guy with the longer reach, faster hands and much more power to boot.

Mayweather from JMM on wouldn't fair much better imo. He got more defensive and maybe relied more on his boxing iq, but that still won't translate to him beating an ATG welter in the second Sugar Ray.

    SRL would have battered Mayweather.

Ray was naturally the bigger guy, a more consistent and varied combination puncher and hit considerably harder. It's for those reasons that I think there would have been a fairly clear winner had the two fought in their respective primes at 147lbs, but Floyd boasts the tighter defence of the two.

You can only applaud Floyd Mayweather's longevity though. A wonderful achievement to have dominated for such an extended period of time, regardless of who you are fighting.

    basically: longevity vs standout wins
    standout wins>>>>longevity
leonard is greater than floyd in every way possible
