How many of Ray's fights have you seen to base that on? Let me guess? 1?
So the sum total of Ray's ring IQ was that he stole rounds?:lol:
I'm a big fan of Floyd and I can assure you that if there's one fighter who has a similar fight "IQ" to Floyd,it's Ray.And Ray had a far more complete game than Floyd does, because Floyd will never face the same level of adversity Ray did,not because he's better than Ray was,but because he's head and shoulders above a far weaker level of opponent.

With more power, he would have been THE most complete fighter of all time IMO.

Possibly... there certainly wouldn`t be a level above the one Pea was in anyway, he`d be the equal of any fighter ever if not better if he had Leonard type power.

He WAS an elite ATG, Has a better legacy than BOTH of them. But skillwise, he's nothing special.

    Easy tiger!:hand
Sweet Pea is the best defensive fighter of the modern era,but regarding offence,he comes up short of the complete package.I'm not saying Floyd beats Pernell in all categories, but he has enough power to even it out and nudge slightly ahead of the legend that is Sweet Pea.
Ray has the complete package,Floyd to a lesser extent and Pernell is by far the most accomplished defensive boxer(with Toney getting an honourable mention)
I totally understand what you're saying, and I'd love to hear if others would concur or disagree.
It's only my opinion,so please don't assume that my views regarding Pernell are fact.

Aside from Power, Pernell had an excellent offence.

Accuracy, punch selection, combinations, jabbing, timing, ect, ect....

If he had big power, he shouldn't be allowed in a boxing ring since it wouldn't be fair to be up against such a force.

Pernell Whittaker had an abysmal finishing IQ, worse than many amateurs. I saw a fight in which he knocked down his opponent about 8 times from the first round on, and every punch hurt the guy, but he couldn't do anything about it because he has NO IDEA how to finish people if he doesn't get a flash one punch KO.

Crazy how incomplete Pernell was offensively; he could actually punch, but had no idea how to set up a KO, just win rounds. No where near as complete as Floyd or Leonard, who can punish someone and get them out of there if they have to. Pac's defense is extremely underrated. He blocked most of JMM's and Bradley's shots, but he is not the total package Floyd and Leonard are.

It's not that Pernell couldn't punch, is that his finishing strategy was extremely ineffective. He has a lot of one punch flash KOs that were not set up. (guys like Hagler, once they saw you were hurt, they finished you off in about 20 seconds. the first sign of stumbling and you were DONE - great finishing IQ).

I'm not disagreeing mate. You know yours is anopinion I respect, but I just think he's below Ray in terms of being complete and I'd place Floyd just marginally ahead(like thickness of a pubic hair marginally)
Do you rate Pernell above Ray?

IMO he was better offensively than Floyd, but definetly not Ray.

Ray had the power and as well as being of the ATG finishers.
