Well to be honest Joe was a special kind of fighter and for him to do what he has done is amazing and most of the ppl who discredit him are people who have never put on a pair of gloves let alone got in the ring. This is coming from a legend in the sport and in all honesty im not being biased cos im from the uk, for example i dont like froch but taylor is one of my fave fighters

You're right. Especially the part where he says Jones was suppose to beat him with his ring knowledge and speed alone.:good:thumbsup

You obviously know more about the sport than SRL, MH and RJJ? I know who I'd listen to..

Like i said, How many of these so called experts, especially the americans, have see much of Calzaghe's career? ;)

The reason they made such bold, and IMO silly predictions, is because they hav'nt really seen much of Calzaghe's career.

Also, Calzaghe went through a bad patch of fights were he did'nt look too good.

Ive seen loads of both fighters fight's and believed that there was a huge chance of Calzaghe making lacy look one dimensional.

I'm pretty sure that if Ray and followed both fighter's carrer's, or had seen more Calzaghe fight's than he has, that he woudl have definetly picked Calzaghe over Lacy. :deal

When this fight was made the biggest comment made by team Calzaghe was "A fight with Jeff Lacy is a career defineing fight, a "Super Fight"" :patsch

Now to me that was horse ****. It was horse**** because i've seen both fighters careers and never saw anything special in Lacy, knew he was untested and knew he was one dimensional. :yep

  5. Yeh being a Welshman who joined this Forum just after Joe announced his Retirement..... I'm sure youre not biased:lol:

You being bang on the money doesnt change the fact Lacy was heavily favoured by the American Boxing press. And Ray. Which is what he said in his quote.

If they had paid more attention, I agree they wouldnt have been so hasty, and and a lot more would have picked Joe. But it still woundt have been uninanmous. They knew plenty about Joe, and knew Roy was shot and still a few picked Roy.

But like I said this doesnt make Ray dishonest., like you say, or full of ****.

A hopeless matchup picker(If that even makes sense), maybe, but dishonest, No.

I strongly favoured Hop to beat Pavlik. Couldnt believe people were picking Pavlik. And said so on here. I wasnt alone.

That doesnt mean if Hagler turns around and says Pavlik was expected to beat Hop, im gonna jump down his throat and call him Dishonest or full of ****, just coz i saw it different.

Well for one, yes im a welshman. yes i joined after joe retired. but ive come here for a few months before joining and im not biased cos i believe myself to be truthfull and honest cos that what makes me who i am.

But anyways back to the point i was making. if an american had been undefeated for 46 fights, had been 11 years as champion then moved onto unifying a division and moving up to win a title in another weight whilst still holding those titles he would have been built up as the greatest boxer ever. However cos joe is from wales hes discriminated by a lot of english people and americans

Ok I should'nt have said that he was FOS.

I know that if Ray folllowed two fighter's closely he would have picked Calzaghe. :good

By the way I knew Hopkins had a huge chance against Pavlik too. :yep

I thought he had it him to "old man" Pavlik, frustrate him and pinch nearly every round.

I thogut he had the tool's to out fox him.

I never expected him to "young man" him though, beat him so easily and look so good doing it.

I rank hopkins win over Pavlik a lot higher than Joe's over Lacy.

You don't need to be a boxer to understand the sport.

I've no doubt that there are some real hardcore fans out there who have neevr fought, but could talk boxing until the cow's come home with some of the finest fighter's of all time. :good

    It's cool:good

    I agree.

If you tell me you picked Sugar over Margo im coming to you for betting advice.

I was a bit bold, i thought he would stop Pav in the 4th.

    So do I.:good

Very true, i was one of them until i found a boxing club and have recently started boxing however you cant truly understand the sport until you have gotten inside the ring or at least worked a session at the gym. When i started boxing it gave me a higher respect for the sport and now maybe who knows if im lucky ill follow in joes footsteps. Im a loooooooong way away but hey a guy can dream cant he?

Plenty of Amercians gave Jones **** for hand picking fight's.

Plenty of Amercians have slagged off Floyd and Oscar.

Joes career, when analized will be frowned up on by some until the end of time. There will always be quastion marks and "what if's?"

Its nothign to do with where he was born.

    Oh, and Calzaghe is English.

He was born in London. :yep

Shane beating Tony was one of the greatest moments in boxing for me.

It brought a tear to my eye.

I thougth that this was the one fight where Shane would finally crack, go down and stay down.

But what a ****ing way to WIN!

Can you believe that Shane is the man again at 147 after all these year's? :happy
