Sugar Ray Leonard-Marvin Hagler a clear win for Hagler

Marvin dropped the first four rounds by fighting in what seemed a daze.

He then came on very strong in the back half of the fight, but Leonard eked out his points, clearly.

I don't agree that Hagler did a fine job defensively. In spots, all Ray would do was open up right-left-right-left, and connect with suprisingly high percentages.

 

SRL beat Hagler. I cringe to say that because I am a big Hagler fan. The problem was that Hagler was very confident leading up to the fight and gave away some early rounds to SRL thinking he would overwhelm him later in the fight. The plan did not work obviously.

I forgot what my scorecard was exactly, but it was very, very close in SRL favor.

If an immediate rematch had happened, I think Hagler would have smoked him.
