I've been judging/polling a number of fights over the past week (trinidad-hoya, mosley-hoya I, whitaker-hoya, hagler-leonard, marquez-pacman II, johnson-dawson). Tonight I'll be judging Hearns-Leonard II...Fight is on youtube as always. Enjoy!
Round 1: 10-9 Hearns...Close Round 2: 10-9 Hearns...Close Round 3: 10-8 Hearns...Clearly w/ KO Round 4: 10-9 Hearns...Close Round 5: 10-9 Leonard...Clearly Round 6: 10-9 Hearns...Close Halfway: 59-54 Hearns Round 7: 10-9 Leonard...Close Round 8: 10-9 Hearns...Clearly Round 9: 10-9 Leonard...Clearly Round 10: 10-9 Leonard...Clearly Round 11: 10-8 Hearns...Clearly w/ KO Round 12: 10-9 Leonard...Clearly Final: 115-111 Thomas Hearns
I had rounds 3,8,11 clearly for Hearns. Hearns knocked leonard down in 3 and 11. I had rounds 5,9,10,12 clearly for Leonard. Personally, I think Hearns won the fight clearly w/ the 2 KOs. However, suprisingly GREAT action entertaining fight...Both men were on the verge of getting KO'd multiple times but hung on. Leonard won 4 rounds very clearly although IMO theres no way he shuda won more than 6 rounds on any scorecard.
Also, couple things I wanted to point out... Marvin Hagler was one of the announcers and he was EXTREMELY BLATANTLY cheering hearns on...It was quite hillarious. He shouted at one point "C'mon Tommy. We gotta..." Also, how did the judges have scores of 113-112 and 112-112...How is that mathematically possible?
Funny enough, if you score all your close rounds at 10-9 and all your clear rounds at 10-8. The result would be 111-110 Hearns.
i'm the only person i know who agreed with tom kaczmarek i honestly think the commentating from gil clancy and tim ryan had a lot to do with biasing people toward thinking that hearns was a clear winner i think it was a very very close fight and tommy was the sentimental favorite for the crowd as well as the announcers (including marvin)
I have this one at home, not seen it in a while, but it was clear to me that Tommy won the fight and comfortably. I didn't think it was particularly difficult to score, Hearns boxed him at a distance and landed more.
The fight was a draw. Leonard did admit years later that he could give Hearns the rematch, but he didn't admit this right after the rematch Leonard said it was a draw, and then he later said he could give Hearns that fight. IMO, the fight was a draw. I'm being biased on this fight, and I don't care if any of you know this or not lol.
