These people are the uninformed types letting their heart felt emotions speak for them rather than speaking from a rational viewpoint. This is meant not only to spite me but also to dis Norris for embarrassing their hero. What really bothers these people is that Terry left no room for doubt over the outcome.

That really burns them up!!

Both are special but I prefer Terry over ray because he leaves the bull**** out of his fighting and gets down to business.

In the very rare cases where he faced a moving target you could see Ray took too long to get set and throw. This was his main problem with norris. And also in the Hearns fight he had problems ad******g the way Hagler did.

Using a simple jab and move strategy, Tommy outboxed him and Terry with his athletism could do no less. Even if Ray managed to close in, Terry is too alert and uninhibited so he would simply tie him up which Tommy couldnt do.

the way I see it, Terry had no weaknesses that Ray could exploit.

LMAO! Look... I like Terry Norris a helluva lot more than Ray Leonard but still. A prime Leonard woulda stopped Terry.

All good points my dude. And when you watch the Norris fight with Leonard one thing that catches my eye is how quick Norris was able to cut the ring off with Leonard and Norris had the handspeed and accurate short distance punching to catch Leonard rather easily, which is something no other Leonard opponent had within a whole package.

And the same reason you like Norris is my reason also. He could have won all the fights he won by fighting the way he did in the Simon Brown rematch but he did'nt, he chose to fight right away in fights and did'nt try to "feel out" his opponent.

What kills me about Leonard fans is that they act like it's a given that prime Leonard would have beaten Norris just because he went the distance with Norris, ignoring the fact that Norris could have finished Ray by the 3rd round. But he carried Leonard in my opinion so that his win can gain more credibility but obviously that backfired on Norris as people used it as leverage as to why he would lose to a prime Leonard.

Based on what? Now you know that's a fair question so you should be able to answer it.

He didnt stop Kalule until round nine and Ayub is not Terry Norris.

kalule is slow, stiff, rigid, no head movement, walks straight in, takes three to give one-made to order type. And no punch! That makes him the ideal opponent for srl.

Terry on the other hand is quick, athletic, elusive, mobile, and quick to counter to get Ray's respect.

He never figure him out in time.

he'd keep trying, i dont deny that but he'd back off after taking a few counters. Terry simply gets off faster than Ray and Sugar ray does not like to get hit.

Also keep in mind that the key to winning is beating the other man to the punch. Ask Gil Clancy.

Even in the game of football this is known. I watched the biography of Bill Walsh who took over the 49ers and he said just as in boxing the same principle applies to the sport of football-to beat the other team to it before they could execute.

A guy like kalule with inferior speed never had a chance. You just have to think about it for a while to conclude I'm right.

Don't get me wrong. kalule was a good champion - for that time period. But I found it hard to get excited for that fight and felt "so he stops him in nine. Big deal. Nobody even knows who he is".

Davey moore with his ten fights stopped in more or less in the same time and nobody said nothing.

Then you have kevin Howard, a midget who floored Ray. Ray was only 27 so you can't make excuses for his age. Think what Terry would have done to him. Terry would have beat him that night too!

Sugar just doesnt come across as the menacing powerhouse that can flatten Terry.

He doesnt do well when he has to press the action. He's no Julian Jackson. He's no Tony Ayala Jr. Those guys are crushers. Killers.

So what does he have at his disposal other than to box? And in most cases, between two boxers the faster one will prevail.

I dont know how to make it any clearer

Wow... you Norris groupies are delusional. I'm not a Leonard fan per say, but the pre-first retirement Ray knocks Norris out. For one thing... theres a big differance between Norris and Hearns. Tommy was alot longer, had that excellent jab, was FASTER than Norris.. and of course had the killer right cross Ray had to look out for.

Terry had the speed edge over Leonard in 91, but I can assure you that Norris was NOT as fast as the early 80's Sugar Ray. That in itself would make it hard for Terry to just circle him. And theres no Norris weakness Ray could expose? Umm... how bout his CHIN! A prime Leonard DEFINITELY had the power to put Norris in serious trouble. And as we all know... Ray was one of the best finishers the sport ever saw.

Norris would hold his own with Ray for a number of rounds, but eventually I see Leonard catching him with a good hook that hurts Terry.... and after that Norris would be as good as dead. Leonard TKO 7 prime for prime.

And for the record... Norris also loses to a prime Curry.

I remember I went to a Casino for this can't miss event. Nobody thought Terry was a threat. Boy were they wrong! Terry literally toyed with him.

It just took him a couple rounds to warm up before he really got into it. The more Leonard pressed him the worse he made it for himself.

There were so many instances in which Terry impressed. The memories still fresh in my mind.

Going into the 7th you could see Ray wasn't quite finished when Terry took it up another notch moving about like a young Cassius Clay tormenting another challenger and then baiting him to the ropes.

Ray reminded me of Wile E. Coyote believing at last he had his prey within reach when suddenly, a pinpoint right at lightning speed connected and Ray's legs crumpled beneath him. After that it was all downhill for him.

I ask you, how do you compete against talent like that?

The problem is Ray's never been tested against someone with the youth and resiliency, the reflexes and speed like Norris. it's a whole new world out there when you're facing this type because the opponent can react more quickly than you. Before you know it, you have one round left in the fight and it's you trying to get in the lucky shot.

How many people had Ray been in that had the speed of Norris? None, and that's the problem.

I think a good opponent would have been Nunn but Mike might have been too problematic for him too behind him being a southpaw along with the threat of his left hand.

The Norris detractors love to point out the Brown fight. but if you look at the rematch you'll see that once Norris performs at full potential, it's an easy fight every time. I had Terry winning every round just as in the Leonard fight.

    he's just that talented.

The doubters were out in full force going into the Curry fight but after having seen Terry for the first time, they remarked "I heard he was good but i didnt know he was THAT good!"

probably his best win is the Taylor fight. Though the haters like to say how Chavez finished him. It's sour grapes

but ray leonard being 2nd of last fight of his career is supposedly suposed to have been the best leonard norris would ever fight? ...

LMAO @ these guys praising Norris for beating up a washed up Ray.

And who did Ray ever fight that was as fast as Norris? Umm ever hear of Tommy Hearns?

Who did Leonard fight that had great reflexes? Umm ever hear of Wilfred Benitez?

The Leonard that Norris beat was a shadow of his prime self. Norris was a HELLUVA fighter, and very talented... but a prime Sugar Ray was better, and more talented.

And speaking of the Curry fight... Curry gave Norris a tough fight until the last few rounds. That was a totally washed up Curry. The 84-85 Curry woulda stopped Terry.

And the Taylor fight? Taylor had NO ****IN BUSINESS at 154. The guy was a junior welterweight, who was good enough to pick up a belt at 147, but had no business competing at 154.

Some people at times underrate Terry Norris. But you sir are severly OVERRATING him.

Is using Andy Price as a yardstick for prime Leonard vs. prime Norris any more laughable than using the fact that Norris beat a shadow of Leonard as an indication of how the fight would have gone in Leonards prime?

When you're on an 11 year win streak it's hard to prove your point.

What can I say? Norris was just better than him. Just be grateful it wasnt Julian Jackson beating the tar out of him or else you'd have bits of Leonard rolling all over the canvas.

Ray Leonard opponents Benitez & Hearns sure they were great in their own time but had a fraction of Terry's speed.

And while each one did make it to champion, neither was the champion Terry was. Tery was the record setter for this division. Not only with his record number defenses but with his hand speed.

    Benitez doesn't make the cut.

Leonard's problem is that he takes too long to get off and can't deal with movers. Norris doesnt just wait around to get hit like all of Leonard's other opponents. Taking too long to get set the way Leonard does, someone like Norris will come along and make him pay.

So just remember that between two boxers the faster of the two always wins.
