    True.

But to give Mayweather his credit - he won a WBC title in each division - and was probaly thee NO 1 fighter in each division he moved up into and won a title.

However all this talk about - undefeated - 5 weight world champ , etc is just paper statisics.

In the old days - 5 weight world champs werent about because it was way harder to jump up a few stone instead of a few pounds

And also if you were a middleweight like Ray Robinison (regarded as maybe the best ever) there was only the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions above him - so would be impossible to become a 5 WEIGHT WORLD CHAMP - if you are a certain higher weight

Unless he boiled down to skin and bones so he could challenge for the Featherweight and Welterweight titles just so he could call himself a 5 WEIGHT WORLD CHAMP

Life is not lived out on paper.

Mayweather resume might look impressive - but he jumped up from 130 to 135 to 140 to 147 to 154 to win them world titles and become 5 WEIGHT CHAMP.

Thats 2 stone - impressive no doubt.

But it dosent mean he is a top ten fighter of all time just because he done that :patsch

Also of the Modern era - Roy Jones trumps Mayweather in the weight jumping winning world titles game.

Not only was Roy a far more dynamic and explosive and impressive fighter than Mayweather.

He also won started his career at 154LBs and won his first world title at 160LBs

and then he won a world title beating John Ruiz at 200LBs plus

Thats a jump from 160LB world title to 200LB world title - 40LB rise

Floyd isnt even the stand out fighter of the last decade in weight jumping.

Also De La Hoya won world titles from Super featherweight to Middleweight - even more world titles and weight divisions than Floyd.

I'm not too sure you could call Mayweather the de facto No.1 at LWW when he was there. He only beat Corley, Brussells and Gatti during his tenure at 140 pounds, before moving north to WW.

And was DLH the man at LMW when he fought him? Could have been. I don't think that division was that deep at the time.

Oscar might have the W on his record but we all know that fight was contorversial as **** and anyone else wouldnt have got the judges decision. Also FMJ would have beaten De La Hoya in any weight you wish to choose from 130 to 154 even more comprehensively than he did in their actual fight.

Although I havent seen loads of the old fighters, I have seen bits n pieces and I aren't totally oblivious to them and I would put FMJ in my all time 10. I just feel he could adapt to any fighting style and find a way to win like he has always done.

    :huh

    :lol::lol::lol:

How do you work that one out - when their actual fight was at 154. :patsch

And De La Hoya was bossing the fight and got tired.:deal

And De La Hoya was at the tail end of his career :eek:ld

And De La Hoyas prime I reckon was at 140LBS and I reckon he would have beaten Mayweahter at that weight :bbb

I can produce fighters who look as skilled (arguably moreso) than Floyd and against better opposition.

The 'that must put him in anybodys top ten' was :rofl where would Pac be then :yep

As D-Mac says, in a ring record/application of skill-based P4P top 100, I wouldn't push for Floyd over Mike McCallum, Salvador Sanchez, Michael Spinks, B-Hop, all around the top 40-50 on my list.

And the 'any other era and you would be raving about him' how hypocritical do you wanna be??? Any other era and you'd say he was **** without even watching him.

Kid Chocolate wasn't far off. Faced better opposition too, and looks glorious on film :yep

I apologise, I should have put from 130 to 147, he'd have done a better job than what Mosley did on De La Hoya.

That's because you haven't seen a lot of older fighters (and no I don't mean from Victorian times) and haven't seen how many tremendous fighters there have been through history.

If you wanna believe Floyd is amazing, fine. But as a boxing fan you owe it to yourself to watch the likes of Jose Napoles, Tony Canzoneri, Ezzard Charles etc etc (I could he here all day, these were the first few mind blowing fighters that came to mind)

    Disagree.

I dont think weight made too much difference.

Both of them were probaly not natural light middleweights.

Both won their first world titles at super featherweight.

Styles make fights - mosley just had De la hoyas number and beat him fair and square in their first fight.

But Mayweather didnt really have anywhere the same dominance over De La Hoya.

Remeber Shane was a outstanding fighter in his younger years.

Mayweather was lucky to get past Castillio at lightweight.

I think Lightweight Floyd v Lightweight Shane would have been one hell of a fight.

I actually find 135lbs Shane overrated, I feel he did his best work at the beginning of his 147 tenure (up until Forrest I of course :yep) although I think a Shane that wasn't as eroded as the one Floyd did fight would make it much closer....Floyd would not be wise to take the same approach as he did with old Shane :yep

He would have to be on his bike throughout. Bad styles match-up for Mosley IMO, but if Shane can hunt Floyd down and get him on the ropes he might land that right hand throughout the fight. Floyd would no doubt time it to am extent and nullify it, but Shane had an explosive arsenal in his prime.

Floyd could potentially outpoint Shane at their lightweight primes, I'll go for him, but in a fight FAR different to the actual fight we saw.
