I voted Pbf simply because of his shoulder roll. Leonard has quick hands like him but leaves himself open for the taking.:yikes
It's not paranoid...you implied I was trying to convince you that Mayweather beats Prime Leonard. I didn't say age wasn't a factor in fights. I said it's not relevant when discussing Mosley's chin...why? Because he's still got a great chin. #1 Welterweight is opinion, but it's also fact aswell... http://www.ringtv.com/ratings/welterweight/ So much for Mayweather's victory not meaning something...
I lean towards Leonard on this one only because he's the bigger man by 2" in both height and reach. If the sizes were reversed I would be picking Mayweather. If they were the same size this would be a toss up. Right now I lean to Mayweather. I could change my mind latter. What do I expect to happen? I think the tone/pace of the fight. Is going to be set by Mayweather. First off Mayweather is more agrisive than he's given credit for. He doesn't throw a lot of punches that is true, but he us almost always in punching range. The second thing is that he has the power to make Leonard respect him. I'm not saying he'll knock him out. Mayweather will spend the fight looking for countering opportunities. He'll get them too. On the defensive end he will make Leonard miss and lower his normal punch output. It kind of sounds like I think Mayweather would win. He might. I would not argue with anyone who picks him. Why I'm picking Leonard. First off in close fights size matters. 2" is not that much but I think in this case it is going to be just enough. Secondly and I think a more important factor is that I can count on my hand the number of boxers that can adapt and adjust better than Mayweather. Leonard is one of those boxers. He will take the assertive roll. He will miss his share of punches but he will land some as well. The third factor is the judges. The three judges who score this fight may not score it the same as another three judges would. The important thing about judges in this fight is that while they are supposed to score for effective aggression. They often score for any aggression. Leonard will appear to be the more aggressive boxer rather or not that aggression is effective aggression or not in close rounds and there are going to be some close rounds. Leonard is likely to get the benefit of the doubt. Like I said I won't argue with any one who picks Mayweather. I can see him pulling this off. 115-113, 7 rounds to 5 No knockdowns in favor of Sugar Ray Leonard.
'Is not convincing anyone he can win against prime Leonard'...I don't need to know your every intention when you type it. Stop putting words in my mouth...I once again not once said Mosley's chin was the only factor in the Cotto fight. Couldn't care what the Ring rankings mean to you...but I would believe their rankings over yours anyday...and over the majority of people who post on here daily. Also, don't call me 'Son'...
Read the very first reply to this thread (reply to highlighted). And I never put words in your mouth...'Is not convincing anyone he can win against prime Leonard'...you typed this. You keep bringing Pacquiao up, so you obviously think I'm a "*****"...which means there is no point arguing with you.
Wow two Cotto avatars above. Cool. Cotto is a warrior. How do you guys post like that where you copy and paste a previous post?
I have to wonder how Floyd could beat Leonard. Can he KO him? Highly unlikely, considering Leonard's chin, and the fact that Hearns, Hagler and Duran couldn't crack it. Floyd would have to outpoint Leonard, and even there he would be the underdog -- his pot-shotting, low workrate style would fail against someone who threw some of the fastest and best combinations I've seen in the ring. Even if Floyd's admittedly excellent defence keeps him standing, Leonard would still win rounds on activity alone, and as seen in his match with Hagler, he knows exactly when to flurry and 'steal' rounds if he thinks he needs to. Floyd often depends on his superior conditioning -- he waits for people to tire themselves out (Hoya, Zab, Shane) and then lets loose on them. Leonard certainly wouldn't fade down the stretch, and he has the stamina to go all 12 rounds at a good pace. Leonard also has a good jab, something that has troubled Floyd in the past (even in his most recent fight against Shane, both of the big right-hand shots that hit him in round 2 were actually set up by the jab). Leonard is also a genuinely smart fighter, one of the smartest we've seen, and Floyd himself made a point to state that he beats his opponents because of his mind more than his skills. How would he fare against an equally smart guy, with hands just as fast if not faster, a tough chin, massive heart, more power, superb combinations and the stamina to go 15 rounds, let alone 12? The situation is very bad for him, to be honest. It's true that Floyd Sr's defence gave Leonard a few issues, but keep in mind that this was a relatively green Leonard, and that even then he still broke Sr down gradually until he got the stoppage. A good defence will always give people some problems early on, until they figure it out or just wear the other guy down. Floyd has an excellent defence, so he would probably go the distance, but Leonard has the power and finishing ability to end things if Floyd gets caught with a big punch. I think the early rounds are surprisingly competitive. Floyd will try his usual pot-shotting safety first style until Leonard catches him with a big shot, and then he'll 'turn into a dragon', in the words of Nazim. Unfortunately for Floyd, this time he'll be up against another dragon, not an old man, and so he'll find himself overwhelmed by the fast combinations coming his way. If he tries to slug it out he'll probably get KO'd. If he retreats back into the safety first style he'll probably see out all 12 rounds and lose via a UD. He'll hit Leonard, of course -- Floyd is very accurate, has quick hands of his own, and is a smart and skilful guy. He'll land his share of shots, but Leonard's sheer workrate will eclipse those, much like how Hoya was grabbing rounds due to Floyd's inactivity until his stamina left him. Floyd will land some sweet counters at times, but it won't be enough to put Leonard down, and Leonard will just come on even stronger. Leonard will bring out the best in Floyd, but Leonard wins on points for me.
SRL will simply outwork floyd. That jab will ruin floyds rythm and turn the fight into a defensive stinker. Close but clear UD for SRL
Leonard would jump all over the ****:yep Mayweathers got absolutly **** all in his arsenal to even contemplate getting through 12 rounds. It lasts as long as Leonard wants it too & being the nasty vicious ego tripping ****er that he is he'd want to really do a slow dissection of Mayweather just to show that only one queen can wear the crown. Is anyone one here seriously saying that Mayweather has power at 147 & speed at 147??? NAH Hearns would obliterate him, Benitez would school him & KO him & Duran would chase him out of the ring. He's a sitting duck for all 4 (Pardon the pun)
