Going into the SRL fight Norris duly acknowledged that Leonard was well past his best and further qualified that view saying that prime Leonard would never have been put down by the punches that had scored KDs against Ray in more recent fights.

The callers for the fight also noted the obvious deteriorations in Ray’s game as the fight unpacked.

All the same, “Terrible” still saw fit to commit a terrible foul - going out of his way to run a distance to land another shot on the already downed Leonard.

Yes, Norris should’ve been DQ’d for that, right then and there.

As it was, Norris still wasn’t able to put out that much lesser version of Leonard.

I'm sure you would be perfectly happy with that since his fans dont care HOW he won. They just want that name on his resume. and a DQ would be enough for them

The truth is, he didnt come close as predicted (or should I say, HOPED?)

Truth is, I never heard anything about Terry being the fighter favored to win. Did you?

I saw nothing but sports journalists picking Ray to win in another easy win, possibly in the later rounds. But as I've said before, I've seldom seen Ray decimate fighters early other than stiffs Andy Price and Dave Green. You can add on Larry Bonds except that his movement threw off Leonard who never had the best luck with movers. It just confuses him

add to that, Terry's hand speed AND power to put anyone back on their heels and Ray has a big problem

Think of it this way. It's like putting the heavyweight greats of yesteryear, the Tunnys, the Marcianos, the Fraziers, the Ezzard Charles's, Jack Sharkeys and so on , against modern day heaviews like Lennox Lewis or Riddick Bowe. They're going to get demolished because of the size disadvantage

and here you have the same situation between Leonard and Norris because of Terry's speed, defense and movement along with ring smarts.

In other words, he can up his game when necessary. That's what we saw and hence the unforseen mismatch.

It would’ve been simpler if you replied via just one post.

It was a DQ worthy foul period.

Very desperate of an otherwise allegedly superior Norris to try that on.

Leonard was clearly several notches slower than he was in his prime.

Overall, he was that much less energised and his resilience was obviously degraded also.

You’re the only person I’ve read who has completely and errantly failed to acknowledge Rays obvious deteriorations as at the time of that fight.

It wasn’t in a clip. It was quoted in an article relating an IV with Norris.

I might link it if I’m inclined/have the time but knowing that I read it for myself is more than sufficient for me.

There’s also the small fact that Terry’s pre fight views were perfectly upheld during the fight itself.

Again, Terry still couldn’t even KO/stop the heavily reduced version of Leonard - so there’s only so much for one to crow about.

not desperation when you're dominating your opponent. Did you not witness rounds 2 - 12?

Neither had I noticed any drop off from any of Leonard's performances

Did he not lose to Duran? He needed a late round tko to beat Hearns so why wouldnt he fall behind to Norris, or Floyd?

So if you dont see me mention a decline, its because there is none. Even the Benitez fight went a full 15, right up to the premature stoppage. i never thought much of Benitez anyways
Please, show me the newspaper clip of Terry's quote. i am very much interested in seeing it!

Terry wasnt supposed to last more than a few rounds and you're coming down on him because RAY lasted the distance?

Do you see anything wrong with what you just said?

Now i am very doubtful about the existence of this quote of yours. i don't think it exists
