OK. Here is the ridiculous premise; on Nov. 25,1980, in the same 24 foot ring that he fought the Panamanian, instead Leonard 15 rds vs COONEY. Now this fight LEONARD moved was very fast and defensive ly at his best. Plodding telegraphing Cooney has to cut the ring, not his best skill and have temples to take Rays little fists of fury flurries. Can Ray stay safe while landing until the end 15 or does he get hit. Everybody knows I think Cooney was as klutzy and ungraceful in the ring as they come. And in NOV 1980 Leonard was on point. So think about it. What happens? Remember Greb and Walker said big guys were slow and got in their own way. A perfect description of Cooney. And Leonard is no average fighter. What happens. This one is for MARK ANT.
I have seen Gerry lose to too many top guys to think he would even win this one. If he hits him he would win, I just don't see him land clean on Ray. I think Ray wins a very odd 12 round decision. Ray did struggled with Geraldo, but I think would beat Gerry. Crazy matchup to suggest.
15 rds. I know. Have you seen classic lately? Plus. He has to catch him. Greb Langford Walker Walcott Ted kid Lewis etc fought heavies. Plus I really think so little of Cooney.
This forum is looney sometimes, swear to God. Cooney would separate Leonard from senses... and very brutally. I'm talking Ray headed to the hospital brutally. The fact that Leonard was 100x better isnt enough to compensate for Cooney's damn 100 pound weight advantage and the fact that he was one of the biggest hitters in heavyweight history. Ridiculous thread.
Leonard definitely was on point that night against a guy who was 80 pounds lighter than Cooney, a whole foot shorter than Cooney, who was suffering from explosive diarrhea. And Leonard still lost a couple rounds. You know the answer.
Unironically this isn't a terrible fight I cannot see Cooney landing cleanly on Leonard, and Leonard has been hit hard by Tommy Hearns, who, while he doesnt hit as hard, hits like a truck in his own right. Cooney may be too slow, not active enough, and have not enough stamina to hit Leonard, Leonard could tap his way out of this. Of course, if Cooney gets the right combination in, it's all over. It's not a fight I'd bet on.
I'd bet the house on Leonard ..being smashed to piece's .Cooney v Leonard ?!.If the fight was even sanctioned which it wouldn't be in a million years ,You wouldn't get Leonard in the ring with him .Sugar was a shrewd guy ,he'd weigh up pros and cons before a fight. Take one look at Cooney and say "Naaa "
Exactly, also remember that Leonard was the guest commentator when Cooney folded Lyle in half like a lawn chair. No way Leonard would get in there with Cooney unless he wanted to end up in the morgue.
Ray would literally be run out of the ring. At some point, probably the first round, Cooney would trap him on the ropes One left hook to the body should do the trick to KO Leonard.
