Jake Lamotta = 2-1 against Murders Row. Lloyd Marshall whupped on Charley Burleys ass just as badly as he did to Lamotta. Would Burley beat Lamotta? It would be a toss up
Except the 2 controversal wins he has are against a past it ex-lightweight Williams and a green Lytell who had only been a pro for 9months. Burley beat better versions of both far more convincingly
i think people are underestimating lamotta. Leonard fought a very smart fight against an opponent who didn't have his legs of old. Lamotta in his prime was quite able to cut off the ring and was strong enough to keep Leonard pinned. Leonard would have to power to hurt Lamotta or strength to push him off. Over 12-SRL, over 15-Lamotta
Leonard would have to fight ala Hagler/Duran II in my opinion. Fighting on the inside is not an option, LaMotta could destroy people in close and was also rather smart about the placement of his punches and how to avoid any return fire. :good He was a bit slow on his feet though, something Leonard could surely capitalize on. Then again I'm basing this on the LaMotta of the 1950's, not the younger, stronger version of the mid 1940's.
SRR had genuine KO power at 160, Leonard's was decent, but not on the same level. Robinson also mixed it up very well with LaMotta, i'm not sure Leonard could do the same. I'm inclined to think Lamotta's size, underrated skill and penchant to keep coming regardless might win him a decision here. Over 15 rounds Leonard's stamina at the weight (HIS size and his opponents would factor here) would be severely tested.
Leonard in a dull 12-round decision. He waits until La Motta shows clear signs of slipping and then challenges him to a fight. He runs laterally through most of the rounds, landing a few loud slappers while Dundee shouts exclamations of amazement from the corner.
In fairness Leonard only fought Hagler, Hearns, Duran at 160 near his prime and not many are stopping any of them
There was nothing controversial about either of those bouts, what the hell are you talking about? The Williams fight was close and competitive for the first five rounds, but afterwards Jake`s nonstop attack and roughousing tactics slowed him down to a crawl for the remaining rounds thus allowing Jake to pull ahead and win the bout. As for the Lytell fight Jake won it fair and square, your talking out of your ass here and I would suggest you refrain from speaking about topics and fighters you are not familiar with, you just come accross as being stupid for lack of a better word when you do that so do yourself a favour and stick to topics you actually have some kind of knowledge of.
Its ok RaginBull...he just as a case of Charley Burleyosis. Its a contagious disease some get when they obssess about the black murders row and fall in love with eddie futchs' quote on burley. I bet you if you asked the black murders row who the best white fighter is they ever fought, they would say Jake Lamotta in a heartbeat.
As for Jake vs Ray and how this bout unfolds, if its sheduled for 15 I would definately favour Jake to win a decision although it would be hard fought and competitive for the majority of the bout. But if its a 12 or 10 rounder Ray could pull it off I would think if he fights an absolutely perfect strategic fight and is constantly on the move behind a authoritive jab while occasionally standing his ground and using his advantage in handspeed to flurry impressively towards the end of the rounds as he so often did. Jake himself alluded to how a fight between himself and Leonard would have gone down when asked about it once, he remarked that if he were to fight in the same manner as he did vs Duran the second time around he would have a very hard time catching up to him as he was so damn quick on his feet and would probably have lost to him, so thats omething to think when trying to determine the outcome of this bout.
