Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Mike McCallum

I would agree on McCallum > Duran at MW, but it's not like Mike is Carl Williams... Duran will give a tough fight.

 

The thread is junior middleweight. Against the grain, I'd minorly favor Duran. I have a lesser view of McCallum than some.

 

Meant JMW/SWW, typo. The fight could go either way, but I feel like McCallum would utilize his skills well enough to eek out a win. Good combination of being the bigger man/having a well made set of skills.

Then again, I used to think even HIGHER of McCallum than I do now. "Best Middleweight h2h" lol

Name me one fight where McCallum's opponent didn't have a shorter reach than him, Graham's reach came closest and his arms were very long.

 

McCallum had more savvy than Ray.

 

McCallum was a master boxer, Williams was nowhere near elite and far easier to hit than McCallum and had a far weaker chin.

 

I'm talking about size, here. People were talking about a reach disparity between Mike and Duran/Leonard (74 - 66/71), and I said, "It's not like he's Carl Williams" (84 inch reach).

 

72-84 compared to 66-78 plus the fact that Duran wasn't as explosive as Tyson after he moved up to 154.

 

Repeating that McCallum had a reach of 78 doesn't make it true, Boxrec lists it at 74 1/2, and you can see in all of his fights that he obviously doesn't have Tommy Hearns' arms stitched onto his sockets. I also agree that McCallum would beat Duran at 154, but it wouldn't be some one way train.

 

What reach does boxrec state that Herol Graham's was?
