I know that Leonard fought in his prime at welterweight and was never a middleweight until the fight with Hagler, I know he fought around the Jr middleweight division close the Hagler fight but was never actually in a Middleweight fight (if memory servers) until the fight vs Hagler I'm pretty sure Jones turned pro at JR Middleweight and I think was at his most ferocious at Middleweight though he was ridiculous for the longest time at LT Heavy as well.. So we could make this a catch weight fight if you like.. I am just curious to see how all of you think these guys stack up against one another..

Jones mid-rounds at MW, at 154 hard to say as at his best Jones was finding 160 hard to make

Leonard wasn´t prime at mw while Jones was. Jones also was a natural smw/lhw. Too much to overcome for Ray IMO. I´d pick Jones to beat him, probably on points.

Yeah I wonder if had he fought in the 80's with all that talent around there if he would have ever even moved up, can you imagine him in the era, I grew up watching the Haglers and the Hearns, Jones would have had worthy opponents back then lol.

Yeah he did beat Hagler though.. But Marvin was not the same fighter he had been, though still one of the best..

I think Jones at his mw best would have beaten that Hagler too, and more clearly. Different story prime for prime though.

I agree with you, Jones to fast for that Hagler.. Primes though in a 15 rounder I think Marvin may find him at some point.

Ray is the greater with the better legacy, but that wouldn't stop Roy from absolutely battering him at 160lbs.

Jones was a natural 160-168 pounder..could not have been any smaller.....leonard was puffed up to get to that weight..i have to go with the naturally bigger man...

good posts, also leonards hand speed advantage saw him to a close decision over hagler. he'd have no such advantage and this would be the first occasion that leonard fought someone who had faster hands as him...as well as significantly more power at this weight. foot speed being equal i see no advantage for leonard save for chin and ring generalship. not enough here, not even close

Lets see Jones try his leaping left hooks against the speed of Leonard.

Jones is too fundamentally flawed to beat a fighter like Leonard. Jones never liked to fight agressively against a great fighter (Not that he fought many). In this case since Leonard is a much better pure boxer it makes sense Leonard wins on points.

Leonard is a little different than the typical hand picked garbager man and police officer Jones usually picked.

Jones by UD or late TKO. Being this is at MW, Roy has just about every advantage conceivable here.
