Did you know that Joe Louis and Ray Robinson were neighbors in Detroit and lived a few houses apart from one another? Robinson credited Louis with getting him interested in boxing. At the time, Louis was a rising amateur champion and Robinson said that all the younger boys In the neighborhood, including him, wanted to be like Joe Louis. And he would sometimes walk with Louis to the gym to watch him train.

Then Robinson and his family moved to New York City and they lost contact for a while. But after Louis turned pro, many of his fights were in NYC. So Robinson said that he'd go down to watch Louis fight and later on they ended up reconnecting, especially since they were in the same field. They remained good friends for the rest of their lives. Him, Louis and Sonny Liston were golf buddies together.

I dont think you can accurately say Ray Leanord was faster than Robinosn . We don't have much film of Robinson in his prime as a Welterweight.

I think Ray Leonard had a better inside game. He was a lite more defensively responsible because he didn't have that one shot power to gamble with.

I think at middle weight, Hearns would have more of a competitive fight with Robinson, particularly if he came in at like 154.

Interesting, but Kid Gavilan might give SRL more trouble, given that crazy style of his.

I think Ray Robinson was the greatest welterweight that ever lived and at welterweight he was probably the greatest fighter there's ever been at any weight, but... the other great welterweights in history would all be tough, tough fights for him.

There's no way he just walks through fighters as good as Leonard, Hearns and Duran, even at 147. The likes of Napoles, Griffith and Rodriguez would all give Robinson tough fights and serious problems to solve.

Does that mean that I think any of them would beat him? No, probably not but Ray Leonard would be a serious proposition for Robinson at welterweight, maybe the most serious he'd have ever had.

Robi`s reach would be too much and he would counter Ray`s jab with the right hand, he`d also stop SRL`s offense from operating by pumping his jab constant, a stiff jab could stop Leonard getting started, I see it being like the first Hearns fight against SRL, the only thing that keep Leonard in this one would be his own jab because LaMotta out jabbed Robi for 10 rounds in their final fight until Robi gassed Jake by constantly landing a vicious right hook to thhe body that may get SRL here also but it could be really close also, they`d have to fight twice to make the result more sure.

Yes 1946. Robinson got up and floored Bell later to cement his championship.

Both of them had problems against good jabs but Robi threw constant longer jabs, so I tilt towards Robi.
