Sugar Ray leonard vs Sugar Ray Robinson

Robinson. He was much stronger. He went up to middleweight and actually campaigned there. I think of Leonard as a great welterweight, doesn't rate as a middleweight.

 

I’m not an expert on these two guys, but this sounds overly simplistic for my taste. There’s a considerable enough difference in both height and reach between Hearns and Robinson to suggest that they would pose different challenges to Leonard as opposed to identical ones.

That being said, what would you consider Hearns’ best overall performance?

 

Sorry that I can’t analyze things on the level that you do. lol Along those lines, I can’t pick out Hearns’ definitive performance as I think, in my simplistic way, that Hearns has had several definitive performances that I can’t separate.

 

I’m going to go with Robinson by a close decision. My reasoning is because he would be by far the best pure-boxer Leonard ever faced. Duran, Hearns, Benitez and Hagler were phenomenal all time greats but but I don’t know that any of them could be classified as “ pure boxers.” I think Leonard might actually have to chase Robinson and that would take him out of his usual game. Either way I think it would be close

 

What weight?

South of Lalondeweight (175/168lbs) it's difficult to find a path to victory for SRL, but maybe not impossible depending on the division and night/version of each man.

I've watched every Ray Leonard fight I could find on YouTube. Dude was legit. How can we be so sure that Ray Robinson would beat Leonard? Robinson was better at Welterweight than he was as a Middleweight, but the film does not exist. I would like to see some film before making a prediction.

 

Yes. Extremely close but Robinson's heavier punch power would serve as the decider. Both men's skills were sublime.
