Tommy was a cheat code at 147, but it was shocking to see Ray clearly lose 11 rounds before landing grazing punches that managed to cripple him. Tommy was literally toying with Ray until he got hurt. Even with Tommy's advantages, it ought to have been more evenly matched before the stoppage.

I think sometimes Tommy Hearns gets underrated. He was a freak of nature with his height, reach, speed, and power. He was boxing first 5 division champion and it wasnt like he was just picking up belts Adrien Broner style.

I feel like he gets underrated because of the fact that he got knocked out in his 2 biggest fights of his career but man he was a special talent.

Leonard wasn't fit to carry Robinsons jockstrap as the saying goes. Folk in Texas back then named him snake eyes. We were at his last fight with Camacho. Don's idea was to get in ring & embarrass him into fighting him. But when we saw what a pathetic money grabber he was, he didn't try to win. Don agreed that he wouldn't embarrass himself by fighting Leonard

I like what the poster on here said about Sugar Ray Robinson being a mix of Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns.

He doesn't have as much speed as Leonard

    and

Doesn't have the power (or height obviously) of Hearns

But he has a little bit of both

He has more height and probably more single shot power than Leonard

He has more speed than Hearns

So in a way he's the best of both worlds

    And had an atg chin/durability

    I he's he's like a mix of Leonard/Hearns and Hagler

but I don’t see any part of his game that is similar to Duran haha

I guess you can say that Roy Jones is kind of like a mix of Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns too in a way

I look at Robinson as like a Roy Jones of his day but obviously more durable

Also another thought is that SRR would've been very well suited at 154 if they had such a division in his day

Someone brought up that he weighed in at around 155 for some of his middleweight fights and was giving up some weight vs his opponents

    154 would've benefited him greatly

(And there not being a 154 may have hurt Hearns who would've had to go to 160 after making the jump from welterweight)

I completely agree. Hearns filled out very nicely at jnr middleweight and Robinson was a natural jnr midde when he was fighting at middleweight. That would have been a fascinating fight. The best jnr middleweight ever in Hearns against a guy who could have been the best junior middleweight if he’d fought there.

Roy Jones was something completely unique. He made the above fighters appear slow, which is crazy.

Hearns is seriously underrated by a few posters at welterweight .
Though some welters had more title defenses at the weight only
two in the history of the division beat him in my opinion
    That's Robinson and Leonard.
Those are the only two that had the right combination of size, toughness,
    speed, power, chin and skills.
Everyone else at the weight lacked at least one of those attributes.
So yes some had more title defenses, like Pipino Cuevas who
is number 3 in history for title defenses at the weight........
But how much did that fact help him against Hearns????

In no way, shape or form is Duran stronger than Robinson.
Duran is the smaller man here fighting a bigger guy who's got everything and more.
SRR knocks Duran spark out, it ain't even close.

It’s just the difference between H2H and greatness/overall achievement as to why some are saying he’s overrated or underrated. I think most rate him H2H as a welter extremely highly.

Like you say, Flash, probably only behind Leonard (demonstrably) and Robinson.

I don't think its wise to assume Leonard was faster than Robinson. All of the film we have of SRR is at 160lbs post 30 years old. As a middlweight he looked blazing fast against Turpin their rematch.

My guess is their speed would be about even and probably cancel each other out. Power? Well that goes to Robinson by a good margin. He has legit one punch power in either hand.

I do think Leonard fought inside a little better. Robinson appears to be a superior athlete in terms of agility, range and his footwork was effortless. The way he knocked Dykes down when he was floating backwards was what the oldtimers told us. They wern't lying. I dont think anyone else could do that.

Robinson fought and beat alot of tough middleweights when he was a skinny welterweight. Why do you think he was fighting 160lbers? Most Welters were scared of getting their heads torn off. He had to agree to carry guys at 147 occasionally to stay busy.

Duran could trouble Robinson with his own unique talent. Sugar Ray could possibly knock Montreal Duran out if he catches him with one of those lefthooks square. It would be dangerous tearing at Robinson like that in that weight class.

Overall i would go with Robinson to beat Duran and Leonard. I dont know that i would bet it though. Its elite level so anything is possible.
