Sugar Ray Leonard: "Why wouldn't I have given Hagler a rematch?"

    Leonard was one of the best ww's ever from 1979-81, but he didn't do a whole lot after that. People seem to overrate him for what he did after that. By the time he faced hagler in 1987 he was done (and so was hagler). I don't know why people thought these types of fights were so important... two great fighterz... way past their prime. Anyways..... I think leonard wouldn't give hagler a rematch because their were easier fights out there for him (like Lalonde & Duran III). & forget about fighting Mike McCallum or somebody like that.

    Watched the Benitez fight this morning, great performance. After WW I don't see that much that impresess me.

    I would never take the word of someone as unreputable as Bokaj. He has no connections and has never worked in the field as a reporter whereas Mr Gordon working for one of the major publications, kept a detailed account of both fights.

    I agree. I'm not a huge Leonard fan but the bashing on this thread is getting ridiculous. Having an opinion and backing it up with facts is one thing; being blindly biased out of personal prejudice against a fighter, and then pulling a bunch of hot air out your arse to try and justify it, is another.
