Good. Either make a prediction or don't. But when you don't make one don't talk about not making one afterward. ;)

Great post StoneHands. In addition to what I've seen on film, there's one other thing that impresses me about Robinson. It's the amount of very knowledgeable people who say he was the best. Robinson seems to get more votes than all others combined. I actually have him number two on my list, but I don't see how you could argue against him being number 1.

I also think that the fact robinson had pretty much everything going for a fighter that he could do, speed, power, durability etc etc, i don't think any other fighter has such a good combination of attributes. You have some other fighter who may be better at mant different things but i think the combination of such skills puts him as the best.

That just about covers everything I had planned to put forward.

Nobody is completely perfect & while Robinson wasnt perfect, he was probably the most complete if that makes sense.

There are 5 or 6 legitimate contenders to his p4p crown but most if not all of those pick Robinson as their no1.... that MUST count in his favour.....

There`s no higher honour than to be a legends legend.

Robinson is a good pick for the greatest fighter of all time but he is certainly not the only pick.

There are a number of other fighters for who an equaly strong case could be made.

I think in all fairness, if you are gonna call a 38 yr old WAY past his prime Ali v Holmes a stoppage then you absolutely MUST call a 32 yr old SLIGHTLY past his prime Robinson v Maxim a stoppage as neither man was floored & both were pulled out between rds in no fit state to continue.

    Ps. I rank SRR no1 p4p too.

Seriously, that article, its amazing how that got publishes, using the arguments it uses to make criticisms of Robinson's greatness? What a joke. If ESB Classic ran that magazine, tht article would get laughed away by every one of ESB's respected posters.

Robinson, you talk about greatness and for me, he really is number 1. I hate having to do this same old post every now and again when something like this comes up. But when we look at the greats of eras like Robinson's, we rightly forgive them (legacy-wise) for losses here and there, because of their heavy schedule etc. And then you look at Robinson's record and we all know, he never lost once in his prime, except the one to Lamotta, who outweighed him and whom he beat 4 times before moving up in weight and beating yet again for a title which men roamed who were naturally bigger than Ray. Before i get into that, i would like to add, that at 147, he was keeping THAT busy schedule, in such a great era, you look at the guys he was beating so often and it is remarkable. Then when he was at MW, fighting past his prime and naturally bigger men in what i believe to be middleweight's golden era, and he emerged as the best of that era given them circumstances?

The greatest for me, number 1. But i understand people having Greb, and the argument for Langford is good also, im even open to Ali (as time has went on), ut people dont like that here.

The Corruption of boxing stopped him from being a long time welterweight champion. when he was a middleweight his star was fading. he was getting into his 30's and the hollywood life style was gaining a grip on him

Superb stuff friend, great little anecdote there! It's always great to read someone so passionate about a fighter without feeling the need to run down others. Great posts, a pleasure :good

I thought the same thing when I read the article 'Is SRR really as good as they say he was???'

Then I gave myself a good slap for being so stupid, the man was damn near the perfect example of a fighter we will ever see
