I think Hagler V SRR would be my dream match up if I had a time machine. I think it would be a war on the scale of Hagler v Hearns, though Im not saying the outcome would be the same.

How much of Burley's fights have you seen? I only have the Smith fight, does any more exist on film?

Have much of Robinson at welter have you seen? The footage I've seen of Ray at welter is grainy footage that's barely watchable.

That's a fight that should have happened. Actually, Burley versus any champ at WW or MW in a title-bout would've been better. Even if Burley beat Ray, that fight was discussed before Ray was champ.

That is the only known footage of Burley to exist, and there's not much more of Robinson at WW, where he was considered to have been at his absolute best.

I've seen a brief clip of his fight with Fusari I believe it was at WW, as well as Golden Glove footage of a young, Featherweight Robinson.

 

Yeah I've seen that amateur footage. It's actually clear, then I saw some footage of him at welter, it also might've been Fusari, and it's grainy with a bright light through it. Barely watchable.

I don't see how you can pick Burley over Robinson, or vice versa, with such poor footage. It's like when people match up Greb in a mythical matchup against some other fighter.

How are you supposed to analyze when all you can do is read about a fighter?

 

I think it's difficult to analyse a WW Robinson, but you can see his style and skills at MW, as there is a lot of footage. Just imagine a quicker, more powerful, overall better version of that and you get the WW Robinson. As for Burley, I'd say there's enough in that footage to get a pretty clear gauge for his style.

I think Mayweather is better than Ray Robinson.

 

I know about that whole thing (I started a thread on the classic forum on Burley's reflecting of the whole situation with Ray).

I'm just saying, it's tough to really gauge and analyze a fight with the limited footage.
