Randy Turpin was an excellent fighter who put on absolutely the effort of a lifeime when Sugar Ray was a bit unfocused.

the fight was staged and filmed and these fights were between 2 actors Ray Robinson and Randolph Turpin.

Ray had been acting a long time and had been regarded as the greatest actor of his day but the writers decided they needed a new face and Turpin was created and scripted to beat Ray. Ray only found out the day before the shoot and he was annoyed but abound by contract to go ahead with it. after the fight Rau threatened to leave the acting business but the writers quickly rewrote it so Ray won but the first take had been filmed

it was all a big con

Funnily enough I was thinking about this very subject while I was out running the other night. I don't think its right or proper to consider anything other than it being his fifth fight in 31 days, in a fourth country. He put it right when both fighters had a proper rest.

SRR fought 9 days before the Turpin fight outside of England. He was not at his best. Randy pulled out a great tactical performance and took full advantage.
