If Robinson had faced Toney in his quest for light heavy ..how does he fare ?Taking in to account that perhaps Toney not at his very Best at this weight and the fight s not held in104 degree heat ..do we give Robinson a reasonable chance of success?
More than a reasonable chance. I'd pick Robinson. His mobility would give him the edge, even at this weight. I always thought it was a shame that Robinson never met Archie Moore in the '50s for the light-heavyweight title. I'm sure Robinson could have reigned at 175 pounds too.
Toney might just beat up Robinson at 175. I mean considering he'd have a 15 lb natural weight advantage. To not pick Toney here is a criminal underrating.
Ronbinson wrecks Toney IMO. His left hook would be a huge issue for Toney the same way it was with Roy. It would be a good fight but Robinson is all wrong for Toney stylistically.
What's absurd about Robinson challenging for a light heavy belt ?? And Toney hardly covered him self in Glory at this weight did he ? Remember what weight James started out at ? So why not give another ,very talented middle at least a chance !
I'm not really seeing how this is absurd considering both fought at that weight. I think Sugar Ray mercs Toney but there is a discussion to be had here.
Ok, let me start a new one called 'If "Two-Ton" Tony Galento actually weighed two tons, do you think he could have squashed Joe Louis?' Better?
Going with Robinson over Toney.....but Archie over SRR. Ray fought Maxim at 158 lbs. Moore was able to fight heavies of that era. He would be too big for Robinson in a 15 rd fight.
Yep I have same opinion regard Moore over Robinson. Archie was a great at light heavy, I believe Sugar could be in danger of getting stopped in that fight after out boxing Moore for a few rounds. But Robinson I think has a great shot v Toney .James always struggled against the movers ,Robinson could do it all .I don't see Sugar as a natural light H but in this instance I believe he's winning a decision.
Toney wins a wide ud at 175.. Bigger, faster and stronger and hits harder also in this weight, robinson would lose a lot of speed if he was in the ring weighing 175. His frame was the one of a natural 147
