Sugar Ray Robinson vs Archie Moore at 175 lbs, at their peaks. Let's assume that Robinson had defeated Joey Maxim in 1952, then later defends against Moore, which was talked about, who wins and why?

Yeah, Moore has no issues with Robinson.

To paraphrase Michael Franzese...it wouldn't have ended nicely for Robinson.

Beating one of the greatest LHWs ever is too tall an order for Ray

It’s so weird nowadays to see former Mafia guys have YouTube channels.

I find him more believable than guys like John Alite or Gianni Russo but I still take what he says with a grain of salt.

Moore losing badly sends his cutman to the back of the arena to raise the thermostat 5°
Robinson wilts down the stretch and quits on his stool before the last round.
The WBC and WBA enacts new regulations that all stadiums must keep the inside temperature no greater than a cool and brisk 78°
Moore never receives credit for the victory

Some people never get over other posters putting them in their places about the Robinson vs Maxim bout, these sites are for mature adults. That being said, I think that Sugar Ray Robinson gives a good account of himself, good movement, quick combinations, and takes some very heavy solid shots from the ageless one, Archie Moore. Robinson does tire after 10 furious rounds of action as Moore, with his cross armed defense is not allowing Robinson any open targets. Archie then catches Sugar Ray with a very solid right hand causing him to stagger backwards to the canvas, Robinson rises, but cannot withstand the onslaught of blows, the referee halts matters in round 10. Both are all time greats in their respective divisions. Who can forget Robinson vs La Motta in 1951 and Moore vs Durelle 1958.

While I feel Ezzard Charles at LHW is a bridge too far for SRR, I've never got the same impression from Archie Moore.
This is based on how his fights with Bert Lytell, Holman Williams and to a lesser extent Charley Burley earlier in his career went.
He had the size and strength advantage but they had the speed and movement advantage and he didn't exactly blow them away.

I think SRR wins the early rounds but Archie Moore matches his pace and they start to fight at close quarters and clinch more, which works in his favour as he wins most of the 2nd half of the fight. In 10 or 12 rounds I wouldn't have been surprised if Robinson won a decision but in 15 I favour Moore.

Not in this version, but I think Robinson would beat a young Archie Moore at Middleweight

We shouldn't forget just who Burley was back then and how avoided he was, including by Robinson's management.
These were actually great learning fights for Moore and would have stood him in good stead against Ray.

At LHW i think Archie is too much, If I recall he took on Maxim based on the fact he "could not crack an egg" and saw it as an easy chance at the LHW title he was faster and more skilled and would have no power to fear from the much bigger man as we saw.
