In all honesty, it would be a good fight for a while in my opinion, but if anyone's getting stopped here, it's Robinson. Burley was superior in most aspects, in my opinion. Robinson knew he couldn't deal with Burley, hence why he cowered out of a fight when the offer was made. Twice. He's just dealing with a superior fighter here, one with a record virtually unmatched in the annals of sport.

Burley's record is better?! I'd like to see where he beat Bernard Docusen.

Robinson UD15, 10-5. Now Gavilan-Burley would have been good.

This fight is a very tough one to analyze. IMO it would be a cautious fight due to the respect each would have for the other. Based on the one film, you can tell Burley carries serious power, enough power to get the respect of Oakland Billy Smith. while Robinson is considered to be a deadly puncher, and he was! I might have to give Burley the edge in power...but Robinson is the more offensively gifted of the two. Burley's style would present an illusion that he was right there to be found...but that was not the case, his waist was on a perpetual swival, and when he saw openings, he threw bombs.

I think Robinson would choose to fight Burley from the outside and not as aggressively as he usually fought. Burley would have trouble with Robinson's own ability to counter. At times when Burley commits to a punch (especially his left hook to the body) he commits all the way with his follow through leaving the right side of his head open...he would have to make adjustments to limit his usual follow through, or Robinson would counter his left hooks to the body and right hands to the head.
If a gun is pointed at me, I'd say Robinson by decision in a more tactical bout than expected.

McGrain, I have no reason to doubt you but from what I have read the bout was a furious one with Robinson really putting on a beating of Gavilan late with a superb offence. May I ask what gives you the impression that Robinson slowed against Gavilan?

Both Beau Jack and Fritzie Zivic thought little of Burleys chances vs Robinson.

As one who has seen Beau Jack, and Fritzie Zivic at MSG, along with
Ray Robinson [ I missed seeing Burley in 1942 by a whisker], at even or close weights I believe Robby would punch too fast for Burley and would eke out a decision.
Of course I could be wrong...Robinson would NEVER beat the bigger guys that Burley beat, but at equal weights, HtoH,I opt for Ray...

what Brit & Euro Top men did you see Burt?

some comparable talent from over there did make states side, namely Robert Villimain, showing the gap wasn't as wide among the True Top boys as the press hype would make it out to be!!!

Bert Pally yer so on the $$$$$ do ray mee its eerie!! Apparently Fritz when ask to demonstrate his strong opinion why Robby would take C.B. would strike a pose ala S.R.R. fighting stance and emphasize "He would go from this to....BOOM...hitting you too fast to even see"

I saw many top British and Euro fighters...The best that come to mind are Marcel Cerdan, first fight in USA, Bruce Woodcock,British Heavyweight,
Randy Turpin vs Ray Robinson rematch, Wilfie Greaves and my boyhood
idol Johnny Greco from Canada, and quite a few less notable Brits...
My dad's favorite Brit he saw was Ted Kid Lewis, and later Jackie Kid Berg.
