Prime SRR was best at 147lbs imo.I'll take Burley. If they had met during their actual careers,

    I'd pick Burley then too.

Everyone says Ray was better at welter is that because he went so many fights unbeaten or was he faster with less weight? Also did he have a bigger reach advantage at welter although he usually had a reach advantage at middle?

He may have been unbeatable at147lbs or as near as damnit. He was 29 when he won the middleweight title.Age is the factor.

SRR would have figure Charley out 15 rd dec. That would have been some fight.

Ray beats Charlie by close ud. Charles did it, Bivins did it, why can't Ray.

I thought we were matching them at level weights?
    Burley v Charles 1=Burley155lbs Charles 160lbs=6.5lbs advantage
    Burley v Charles 2=Burley151lbs Charles 161.5lbs=9lbs advantage

    Burley v Bivins = Burley 153lbs Bivins 160.75lbs= 7.75lbs advantage.
Do you think Robinson could give Charles 9 lbs and beat him?
Burley beat Archie Moore, flooring him 3 or 4 times.
Burley weighed 155lbs Moore 161lbs=6lbs advantage.
    Could Robinson do that?

That "blip" in the WW2 era, caused a bunch of great fights not to happen.....and a bunch of fighters gained from it, while a bunch were 'hurt" by it.

    Burley on points.

Ray Arcel told a story about the time he ask Robinson if he was going to fight Burley. According to Arcel Sugar Ray answered "I thought you were my friend" Ray was a lot of things but he wasn't dumb.

Robinson. Burley is slightly overrated on the Classic forum imo. I highly recommend Harry Otty's book. He lost to Zivic, Overlin, Charles, and Bivins... and not when he was past it. A great fighter, but I cant make him a favorite over the middleweight Robinson of 1951.
