I took this book on my kindle when I went to South East Asia last year, excellent book! Burley lost a split decision to Zivic, then won 2 U decs over him,the bouts were at welter not middle. As I said in my earlier post he was conceding a fair bit of weight to both Charles and Bivins, under the same handicap would Robinson have done any better ?

    N.B .Burley never fought Overlin.

Charley Burley obviously was a great fighter, but it appears that he lost some bouts that he should have won. He also had a tendency to stink up the joint in some bouts with his boxing style and was far from being a colorful individual, both of which hurt his marketability. It also didn't help that he never had a manager who could get him lucrative bouts or title shots. Of course, it is possible that even a terrific manager would have a tough time of it when handling Burley.

I think the only real things that Burley lacked were the right connections and a more fan friendly style. He had to work a day job and the take whatever bouts he could get.

I had read that Burley was brought to New York to showcase him. He knocked out a good journeymen in the 1st round. He no push or traction from it.
