Robinson 1950-1951 vs. Charles 1942 Robinson beat Robert Villemain W15 and KO9, Jose Basora KO1 (they had fought to a draw in 1945), Bobo Olson KO12, and Jake Lamotta KO13 (he went 5-1 (1) vs. Lamotta). Robinson had not lost a fight since February 1943 (he lost in July of 1951). Prior to the loss in 1951 he was 128-1-2 1NC. Charles was 31-2-1 (16) and had wins over Hall of Famers Teddy Yarosz W10, Anton Christoforidis KO3, Charley Burley W10 x2, and Joey Maxim W10 x2. He had also beat Marty Simmons W10 and Jose Basora KO5 (1942). He had a draw with Hall of Famer Ken Overlin (Overlin won a decision in their first fight). He lost a questionable decision to Kid Tunero, LSD10. By the end of 1942 Charles was the #1 MW contender. He never got a shot at the MW title and moved up to LHW. Maxim outweighed him by 15 and 18 Lbs. Robinson will be the more experienced fighter at this stage, 29 years old. Similar in height and reach... 1/2" "advantage" for Charles on both. Charles will be right at 160, Robinson a pound or two below 160. Both men are quick, Robinson more so. Charles is the naturally bigger man, he is the stronger man in my opinion. Both have good power, Robinson was more explosive at MW... Charles had more power as a LHW, he was still growing at this point and only 21 years old.
wow!.....I had never considered this one....what a great all time matchup...the possibility actually existed.
Charles took off 2 years in WW2 era due to service in the military....and when he came back he moved up to Lightheavy...then to fight at heavy for the title.
How about Tokyo Douglas vs. Montreal Duran? The 84 Lb. weight difference shouldn't be a big deal for a guy like Duran. By fight time Duran rehydrates to about 200 anyway, so Douglas is really only 31 Lbs. heavier. I'm sure Duran has pushed out turds bigger than that.
