Who wins this dream matchup and why? What do you predict the ending result to be? Is SSR a case of old timers always saying athletes from the past are better or was he really that special and could dominate in any era?

    SRR handily.

every time people post these kind of match ups, they are Always Automatically 'projected forward' SRR fighting PBF obviously at WW because that's where the two meet(?)... WRONG.

the 5'9" Floyd going back to SRR's time would have spent much of his career as a MW... so competing against a good few Top middles would certainly account for a very different outcome to Floyd's career.

I believe Floyd would have been competitive in ANY Era, but just the same as RJJ when fighting bigger' men and most of all, more regularly, he, Floyd wouldn't have ended up with the same command.

I pick SRR every time over Floyd, SRR already 'proven' among Bigger fighters, Floyd not so much.

same facts apply to ALL fighters in modern times, going back.

i.e Bhop, Calzaghe, Froch and so on would have been fighting Conn and co.

Floyd would've waited till SRR was 40 before he challenged, and even then, he'd lose.

SRR can hurt Floyd; Floyd can't hurt SRR.
    SRR by UD or TKO.

Ray is all types of wrong for Mayweather. Mayweather can't fight as the aggressor, he has to be the counter puncher. Ray is much better at controlling the fight from long range than Mayweather is. Once Floyd becomes the aggressor then his defense goes out the window.

Ray by late knockout. Best performance of his career.

I don't rank Floyd especially high H2H at 147 like I do from 130-140. As great as a boxer he was, the two Sugar Rays were even better and bigger.

Robinson by decision. He had too much firepower. Sugar Ray could hurt you with any punch in his arsenal. Those hooks came in 2s 3s and sometimes 4s. It was like a whip. He could throw them moving forward or gliding backward. Robinson was so rangy. He could dance backward stop on a dime and knockout his opponent.

Floyd can certainly handle himself but he would have to fight out of character for him. Mayweather would not be able to control the pace or dictate the way the fight is fought. I don't know that he would get knocked out but I think if he makes a mistake would find himself on the canvas at some point.

In Mayweather`s defense I believe he was Robinson like at 130 lbs.

I agree, imo Floyd is a natural 130-135 lbr. Once he got to 140 he started putting fans to sleep instead of the fighters.

Floyd would have to be handcuffed and dragged into the ring to get him in with Ray. Floyd has nothing for Sugar Ray Robinson

Hm, I'm wondering people saying Mayweather being a natural 130/135 pound fighter but is he? Would he really way 130/135 pounds with same day weigh in?

I rewatched Castillo-Coralles II yesterday and Castillo was 148 pounds on fight night for a fight that was supposed to take place at lightweight. Back in the day of same day weigh ins a welterweight fighter was weighting his 147 pounds on fight night (+/- 2-3 pounds). In these days fighter come 2-3 weight classes above the weight limit of the weight class they fought in.

I don't think Mayweather is/was a natural jr. lightweight/lightweight. More like a natural welterweight. (Of course this is also true for all his contemporaries).

Completely irresponsible. Why would you make an assumption regarding Floyd based on a fight he didn't even take part in? If you had actually done the research, you would have known he was weighing in between 135 to 140 for his super featherweight and lightweight championship fights. He didn't exceed 140 until after he moved up to light welterweight.

Having no information on Ray's weight on-the-night means there's at least 20 pounds difference between their primes.
