15 rounds. 1950s rules. Whichever version of Robinson you think has the best chance, versus the Johnson who pulverized Burns.

Poll broken down by whether the voter has one or more boxing matches (amateur or pro.)

    Who wins?

Well- If it's Johnson's ruleset he'd probably waltz over toss him a wink, manhandle the sugar man into a corner and brutally beat the **** out of him the sheer difference in strength would be a bit too much for Rob. In Robs time... I don't know I just assume Jack because he was a great heavy (even from another era) fighting the greatest Welter.

It's under Robinson's rules. Middleweight Robinson, probably.

How long has Johnson had to figure out the rules or are they like "Figure it out and try not to be DQ'd"?

Again, regardless I am assuming that Jack is gonna still take his lunch.

Johnson is given a briefing in enough time to learn the rules. Plus, he was a clever chap. Assume that he's well acquainted with the rules.

Ray makes him work for it for a little bit he'd be an alien compared to what he's used to but yeah Uncle Jack makes Robi go splat.

    Johnson.

He’s not Maxim though Ray will no doubt look very good early and perhaps at different points later in the fight - depending on how long it goes..

Though afforded fast hands, I think the true degree of Johnson’s hand speed maybe underrated or somewhat overlooked.

Johnson will aim for definitive counter strikes and will succeed even if there are a number of misses involved.

I think Old Dog Jack will also push the rule boundaries regards to clinching and hitting/holding - in that regard, Johnson will succeed where Ruiz miserably failed v Jones - unless we have a ref equally protective of Ray - which I doubt.

Finally, what’s the ambient temp. for this fight? Okay, fair enough, not Maxim hot, comfortable enough for fighting without any pronounced effect on either fighter. Just checking.

The temp is fairly normal for Robinson fights. Nothing like Maxim.

You mean Johnson doesn’t get air conditioning in his corner like Maxim did against Ray?

I think Michael Nunn, at his absolute best, might give Johnson more problems...

Johnson might not have been as technical, and nowhere near as fast or skilled as Robinson, but the sheer size, weight and reach advantage gives him the win. Jack was clever and was known to fight a bit dirty- he'd be clinching and shoving the relatively tiny Robinson around. I imagine it'd be somewhat like the fight between Frazier and Foreman, with the much larger and stronger fighter bullying the smaller one with his reach and punching power.

For the record, I think Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest P4P boxer of all time. It's just too heavily stacked against him physically. Robinson would probably exhaust himself before he could do any serious damage to Johnson, all the while Johnson would be firing huge punches, clinching and holding Robinson, and throwing him around the ring like a ragdoll.

I'm not too impressed by JJ's skills and SRR's are beyond question. The real heart of the matter is how much the ref allows JJ to get away with. If he allows JJ to hold, maul and do some rough stuff then size wins out and JJ probably stops him. If the ref enforces a pure boxing match then if JJ doesn't get DQd I think SRR will lump him up something awful. The difference in speed and technique is that much.

SRR 5'11, 73 inch reach vs JJ 6' 74 inch reach.

Obviously jj is much heavier in build but the size difference is actually quite small. SRR might have been "Giant Ray Robinson" in JJ's time.
