Man this is awesome! Thank you! The later rounds go back to black and white but it is nice to see some of it in color
Excellent footage.. Lamotta was actually a very good fighter. He slipped some of Robinson’s jabs fairly well at points. Tough as nails too.
The Bronx Bull in 1951... He was probably just another tough guy in his neighborhood...that is how tough the Bronx is and always seems to be. How did a Harlem smiling pretty boy, pink Caddy driving, aspiring Broadway dancer with the nickname Sugar KO all these warlords? Seriously...if there was only one fight to save in all of boxing history...for me it would be this one. NYC history, postwar history, the greatest to ever do it in his greatest most dramatic win....against one of the most famous/infamous fighters ever.
I suppose it would be like filming this fight in colour in the movie Raging Bull, wouldn`t have had the same mystery.
For those that discount Lamotta as just a plodding pug who does nothing but lead with his face and display an iron chin, watch this fight. He's exceptionally skilled. No one does that to a near-prime Robinson by not having outstanding skills.
It's not even that. It's the fact he puts so much time into restoring old fights to make them come alive. It's incredible.
