As you said Argentinian judges would score the fight a draw WHEN IT WAS CLOSE. So if Monzon was racking up draws against low-level opposition then that means he was having CLOSE FIGHTS with them. How many ATG fighters are having close contests with fighters that are 1-4?

why dont you just research him then . Monzon was often the underdog in many fights early in his career, as in he wasn't expected to do as good as he did. And if you dont think there was tough boxing going on at Luna Park with Brusa and his 14 ****ING WORLD CHAMPIONS, you must not up to speed on the matter.

Speed kills and Sugar has it in hand and foot. The very best Robinson, the one from the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, is one of the quickest, most accurate and hardest hitting Middleweights there has ever been.

Monzon's greatest attributes were his strength and his stamina allied to good fundamentals and very cool head. Carlos could chug along at three quarter pace all night but I can't think of any fight he had where he was constantly being beaten to the punch while chasing shadows and I'm convinced that would be the case in a fight with Ray.

Monzon's size, reach and stamina will win him rounds but not enough of them. Sugar Ray by uncontraversial decision.

Look the size thing is comparable ... they were the same height at 5' 11" or so ... Carlos had 2.5" on reach (maybe) .. Ray had big edge in speed , power was even , both had terrific chins and stamina , Carlos had strength ... I'd slightly favor Ray by decision but wouldn't bet it .. the Monzon who fought Nino the first time was a calculated monster who may have been too strong ...

Agree with this 100%--peak Ray Robinson's skill level would negate any size disadvantage and ultimately he outclasses Monzon--I'd say a 9 rounds to 6 UD.

It could be argued, that Monzon was maybe the best ever to time and 'read' his opponents My vote would go to Monzon.

    Great post. Honest and accurate
Saying either of these men get easily outclassed and lose 15 rounds to 0 is just not a fair representation on either mans career,
and the consensus voting poll clearly supports it

    Monzon, similar fight like Benvenuti.
SRR would be tough in early rounds but Monzon would broke him down step by step.
