Another good post, Ray Arcel and Whitey Bimstein Duran's corner men said he could have stayed at Light weight for years ,but his eating habits made a move up imperative.

Duran would have continually pressed Robinson like Lamotta. LaMotta gave Robinson fits in his prime. Duran had an equal chin, a little better conditioning, a better defense and a better ability to throw accurate combinations than LaMotta.

LaMotta was a natural LHW fighting at MW against a WW in Robinson. Duran's chin was NOT equal to LaMotta's. As good as Duran's chin was, that's an absurd statement. As far as conditioning, at his best I wouldn't say that was the case at all, unless we're talking a severely weight-drained LaMotta. Definitely the more skilled fighter, but it was primarily LaMotta's size, strength, and durability that troubled the smaller Robinson. In other words the comparison was pretty inept.

Duran had superb head movement to take the sting off a shot ,but his chin was not the equal of Lamotta's ,when Jake got dropped it made the front page!

Maybe so, but Leonard isn't Robinson. Not even close.

Duran wins, but Robinson wins the series at welterweight, at least. Why? Duran wanted it badly. Mention a better performance than Duran-Leonard I. The already bit past his best lightweight moved up to let an all time great welterweight hang on for dear life. Leonard closed the gap to reduce the effectiveness. If Leonard boxed, he would have gotten KO'ed. In fact, I think that Duran would beat any welterweight in history, one way or another. By brawling or defense. There is a weakness in Robinson. If he does not figure the style of his opponent, like we saw in the Turpin fight, he would lose. Duran had a very difficult style. He fought like a swarmer, but hit like a brawler. And last, but not least, he had a great defense, and was a great dirty fighter.

Duran would win the fight by very close but clear UD. (No man is unbeatable at any weight in fantasy matchups.)

Duran could win but I dont know how he would handle Robinson`s power. Ray had superior power to Leonard in both hands and the ability to hurt you with any punch in his arsenal.

At some point even a great version of Duran like the one in Montreal is gonna get stung and maybe wobbled by Sugar Ray. Once that happens is he going to be able to continue to fight his fight? Once Ray establishes his time and room its going to be hard for Duran not to be picked apart.

Robinson boxes and slugs his way to a UD

Forgot to add, Duran wins (I think) but most likely Robinson ruins him, I mean, the fight takes a heavy toll on Roberto, Duran will never be the same again.

Those that say an overstuffed Roberto Duran would beat a prime Ray Robinson NEVER saw the prime almost 6ft Ray Robinson fight . Ray at 147 pounds was simply the very best fighter I ever saw or hope to see. A KILLER...
