even though Robinson put on a beautiful performance against maxim, kovalev has better power than maxim alongside an intelligent boxing game Robinson's speed of hand, fleet of foot and incredible ring craft will give kovalev many problems but kovalev imo will be too big and powerful for Robinson @175
People can mention the heroics of Robinson in his bid at LHW against J.Maxim but realistically I see Kovalev as too big and too bad, then there's his elite outside boxing skills and power. Sugar Ray being arguably the most talented, skilled offensive fighter in history still doesn't negate the disparity in size his hypothetical opponent can utilise to keep him at length where he can outbox him en route to a possible stoppage victory or wide decision. Kovalev for me.
I can't favor Robinson. Even if he puts on the fight if his life the best he can hope for is a lopsided decision loss.
Robinson only fought Maxim, didn't even try Moore, or Johnson. He wouldn't overtake Kovalev, who would win by decision.
Wait size matters? Why does size only matter some times. People still believe 180 pound Marciano could beat 6'5 230 pound Lennox Lewis. 6'3 230 pound George Foreman, 6'6 240 pound Wladimir Klistchko. So does size matter or doesn't it? I know it does and know Kovalev would destroy Robinson. Joey Maxim had now power at all and wasn't that good for a fighter. He was only considered okay even in that era.
All this $hithead ever talks about is Marciano. You must have grown up constantly getting your a$$ kicked by Italians lol.
I am on board with the whole 'Size Matters' side in arguments throughout various threads. Although most reasonable posters recognise that size/weight is an influencing factor even for the 'skillzpaythebillz' crowd, there are still stubborn nostalgists who maintain that a heavyweight is a heavyweight whether he fought at 185lb or 245lb and only 'skills' really matter with style playing a part. I would love to hear a good explanation for the successes of Nikolai Valuev and Primo Carnera or for the domination of SHWs in the last 3 decades but I won't be holding my breath.
it's not inconceivable that Robinson wins this. If the relatively light hitting Ward hurt and eventually stopped Kovalev hurting him to the head and eventually to the body then the murderous hitting Robinson could. The trouble with Robinson despite his sublime skills and speed he tended to get into a scrap, and that could be fatal here. As long as he used those skills and the speed and chose his offense wisely I'm going against the grain and says he takes this on points or a late stoppage. I don't think Kovalev is that good anyway.
After witnessing the so called meanest man in boxing keep looking for the ref to intervien then quitting in the Ward rematch id have to re examine this
Kovalev is basically the size of Ingo Johansson and no worse head to head. Robinson would lose. He wasn't slick enough to pull off that kind of win at a size disadvantage.
