While fighting in Australia, Darcy was making a substantial amount of money compared to the average weekly wage of Australian adult male workers during World War I. Yes, top fighters could be receive bigger purses in the United States than the ones that Darcy received in Australia during that time, but Darcy was still making a lot of money.

In my book, journeyman boxers are quite competent. They are far better than the so-called "stiffs." In other words, the word of "journeyman" is much more of a complement than a slur when used to describe a professional boxer.

Jack Kearns had plenty of ability as a manager of professional boxers. Boxers could make plenty of money while being managed by Kearns, but there was talk about him being a free spender and his fighters ending up broke.

While reading some American coverage about Les Darcy arriving and being in the United States, I sensed that there was a huge American groundswell against him. But it appeared that the groundswell wasn't fueled by any actions on the part of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson.

It has been a habit of mine to sign off on every post since I started doing it on the Cyber Boxing Zone message board over ten years ago. At the time, Chuck Hasson, a knowledgeable fellow on the subject of Philadelphia boxing history, was also writing posts on a regular basis on the CBZ message board. As a result, I did it so people wouldn't mistake me for Chuck Hasson.
