It's kinda weird to say it but I think SRR doesn't get enough credit nowadays. He was an absolute prodigy in the ring. Imo the P4P King. He broke the mold. He invented modern boxing for Pete's sake.
I argued with someone on Instagram (I know, I know) that unleashed on me when I posted an order of the top 10 greatest ever. They actually said SRR was great for a past fighter but wouldn't even be a top 10 MW today.
Yeah that's an absolutely ludicrous take! I'll admit it bugs me when people's automatic answer for p4p no. 1 is SRR, without being able to explain why, without having watched him, without understanding the depth of his resume, just because Bert Sugar said it once. I was one of those people when I first got into boxing.. I've since looped back around to think he is the best that ever did it, but on the subject of SRR the two things that bug me the most are the people that 1) hold his 19 losses against him or 2) refuse to believe that anybody else could even be in contention for the best ever And also of course the TBE crowd, just no.
I think he is because of what I've actually seen. I think there's any one of at least 5-7 guys that could be considered the greatest ever and I wouldn't argue against it though
It’s because you were on Instagram where everyone calls Mayweather TBE. Robinson is fairly rated imo since most people who actually know boxing have him as #1.
To think, SRR's 1st 42 fights were not even filmed. I'd wager some boxing freak would pay good money for any video of any of those fights. I actually have him at 5. Armstrong, Ali, Mayweather, Pac, Fury then SRR.
