This is not a tribute to his career accomplishments and I have seen better boxers in just my lifetime but he has shown that he has boxing skills. So which of his few bouts would you say is the most impressive? Dave Green? Duran 2? Duran 3? Kalule? Hagler? Heanrs 1? I think everyone will have to be forced to admit it was Hagler tho I doubt anyone will come forward and admit it. It certainly cant be the first hearns fight
Most likely Hager, the case for Duran rematch could be made though Rooster you think? Or too much contraversy around that one for you?
The Hagler fight has too many astericks for me. Hearns I. Certainly. Followed by Duran I. Yes, Duran I.
The Hagler fight will always leave a bad taste in the public's mouth but it was still the best overall performance from him. he used tricks I hadnt seen before and his right hand was much improved and more accurate, it didnt sail overhead as I'd seen it in the past. It was kind of like watching him take his final where he'd learned to put it all together. For me it's hard to say how he'd do with someone younger, hungrier, faster (just about anyone at this point) Had he followed it up with wins over Nunn and McCallum he'd make a believer out of me. The fact that he bypassed them for someone like Lalonde makes him look like he's on the run again.
Hearns I Duran II Benitez all 3 of these great fighters were at/near there primes when leonard beat them
Cheers. I have a DVD clip of a guy (an author who's name escapes me at the moment, he wrote "Serendipidy) saying people in Detroit were getting money from anywhere to bet on that fight.
Hearns I. Thats combining the quality of opponent when Leonard fought him and the performance. More so the quality of opponent as he was behind and getting outboxed for most of the fight. Adversity comes into play as well.
Hearns I (he became the undisputed welterweight champion) Hagler (he became the undisputed middleweight champion).
I just re-watched Leonard-Hearns the other day...a good fight to be sure, but does anyone else find it's not quite actually as entertaining as it's made out to be?
