On April 8th the world ranked Suguru Muranaka will defend his Japanese Flyweight title against Tetsuma Hayashi. For those who haven't seen Muranaka however he's someone worth making a note of and giving some attention to.

The 29 year old Tokyo based fighter is 21-2-1 (7) and is ranked #4 by the WBC and #8 by all 3 of the other major organisations. Although he lacks a mega-big win he does holds notable wins over Takuya Kogawa and Masayuki Kuroda, both in his last 3 bouts. At the moment he's riding a 14 fight winning streak dating back to 2007.

In the ring he's often a whirlwind of punches and tries to win every exchange. This often sees him refusing to sit on his punches, though, as seen in his last bout (video below) he can punch and does actually have 1-punch KO power, even if he doesn't often show it.

Vs Saka****a (1-punch KO, 2nd defense of his Japanese title)

Vs Kuroda (1st defence of Japanese title, came against former world title challenhger)

Vs Kogawa (title winning bout and a contender for 2013 FOTY)

Thanks to Taka for getting the videos up

He dropped like a Saka****a too!

I'll try not to steal too many, I blame Taka for telling me abut these guys. He's said Keita Obara and Shohei Omori deserve their own threads too. Obara is likely to be more of a success on here as he fights at 140/147 and has lights out power.

I've been wanting to do threads on both Omori and Obara but I can't find enough footage on them to flesh out the threads.

I know the Asian boxing site has most of Obara's career (think they were missing 3 fights). Omori was much, much harder to track down with only 2 or 3 fights that seem to be available.

Muranaka all excitement. I know he not great but when Muranaka fights I get excited. The sort of fighter that fans love if him 30lbs heavier.

Muranaka was stripped of the Japanese title earlier today when he completely screwed up his weight. He was originally around 4lbs over the limit, at a second try he remained well over 2lbs over weight and looked gaunt as **** at the weigh in. Looks like a move to 115 is due.
