Guys, what do you think about the Stevenson - Sukhotsky clash? I follow Sukhotsky´s career since quite a while. A few years ago he beat up Juergen Braehmer pretty badly (should have been awared a stoppage win) and watched him live maybe when he smashed this other Sauerland kid Eduard Gutknecht (was in 2013). He has a solid chin, good boxing fundamentals and can definitley crack. Not saying he is going to win but I believe we might see Stevenson getting staggered at some point.
I will admit I've not watched much of him since he fought well vs Braehmer, but just checked and he lost wide on the cards to Cornelius White last year who has been brutally stopped 3 times. That doesn't look good at all, was it as wide as the cards suggest?.
This has all the earmarks of a letdown fight for Stevenson, who's been getting hit from all angles this year as far as distractions go (that they're self-inflicted is irrelevant at this point). Sukhotsky was chosen based off the White fight, but this is boxing...you can't fight distracted against a fighter who'll surely be the hungriest he'll ever be and not put yourself at risk for the upset.
I haven't seen it either but I read it was like 115 degrees in Vegas when it happens and the heat cause Sukhotsky problems and he was dehydrated and off his game. And White didn't really engage and jabbed and moved and the heat can make you sluggish and effect your reflexes.
:good Thanks for the info, seems like there was reasons then for what happened. he looks a puncher whenever i have saw him so he probably would have KO'ed White under normal circumstances. Hope for a good fight on Friday.(why Friday?)
He is roughly as much of a thread as Fonfara was (and on about the same level h2h) - meaning there is a real chance of an upset KO but don't bet the farm on it.
As much as everyone likes to hate Stevenson and as much as we'd all like a much better opponent, Sukhotsky actually isn't anywhere close to making honorable mention for a list of "worst title challengers of the year." In fact, Sukhotsky is a better opponent than Kovalev's first two title defenses of the year. Sukhotsky holds good wins over Nadjib Mohammedi (TKO2) and Edward Gut (TKO5).
Yeah, but actually the odds seem even wider then they were for the Fonfara bout (if I remember correctly). Might be worth a little gambling.
"Reasons" or "excuses?" White boxed the socks off him doing what he was supposed to do and had the same conditions to fight in. IMO White layed down the blueprint. HOWEVER Steveson isn't some unbeatable killer and Sukhotsky has the ability to upset him
Honestly he's not good enough to trouble Adonis and will likely lose by ko Say what you want about Fonfara, but he is as tough as they come and awkward enough to give anyone problems
