According to recent news, WBC will not stand in the way of a possible unification between Wilder and Klitschko/Fury winner. It seemed like they were going to force Wilder to fight Povetkin before any kind of unification takes place, but now it seems the opposite.

That makes a unification possible for early 2016, instead of mid/late 2016.

^ please link the source. That would be absolutely disgraceful to Povetkin.

of course they were going to duck povetkin. the wbc is going against their own rules. but i guess unification beats mandatory

It's not ducking if the WBC gives their blessing.

Actually, you can read the bylaws on the WBC website (under "rules") and they clearly state that a mandatory can be delayed for a unification if the WBC approves.

The mandatory is moved back until after the unification takes place.

Thanks for link. Wow what crooks in Haymon's pocket. Stiverne gets 0 optional defenses but Wilder gets three. After fighting no one for the right to fight for the title. Disgusting.

    Again, read the WBC rules.

When any boxer in any weight division wins a vacant WBC belt, his first defense is by rule against the mandatory contender.

Not so when a boxer wins a WBC belt from another boxer who holds that belt. In that case the new champ has to defend his title against the mandatory contender on an annual basis.

Wilder won the title in January. He has until January to make a mandatory defense.

I just checked the WBC website and didn't read anything about unification in they Rules PDF. Maybe the spanish version is not updated.

Does Bambi on Ice really want to finally cash his chips in? Or does Bambi on Ice want to continue making moderately good pay from getting fighters to take a dive?
Hmmm, its down to his handlers.
